what can one yell me about ChaLEAN ExTreme or slim in 6? what did you like and why? I am trying to decide on a new dvd program after i am done ripped in 30 and i want to try something different then JM.... how to decide what to do next?

Replies

  • I did Chalean Extreme and completed it... My results where not much weight lost but I got really toned... almost bulky toned though..I needed more cardio though.... and that program didn't have it for me..

MY husband has P90 X and P90X 2..as well as insanity...... I can say if you want to burn fat quick Insanity is the way to go...if you want to get toned/burn fat.. P90 are good.( I just don't have the time to do the long programs)

Im now doing Brazil Butt lift..and after 2 days I already see a difference.... It's a lot of leg and butt work, but hey I'm a woman those are my target areas..

    Good luck..

I did ChaLEAN and loved it. I lost 3 inches from my waist and my body fat percentage dropped by 8 points. She is totally right when she tells you that muscle burns fat. I supplemented with extra cardio, though, I did not stick to the two days/week in the basic ChaLEAN schedule.

I am currently doing a ChaLEAN/TurboFire hybrid and it is awesome. I didn't want to give up the strength training portion of ChaLEAN so I kept that and now do TF on the other days for cardio.

I have many beachbody dvds because I think they are fantastic but also because I need variety. Slim in 6 is great for beginners getting back into shape, however, it becomes repetitive (same dvds-like 6 I believe for the whole program) and stale very fast.

Chalean Extreme-I'm a cardio junkie but my trainer told me that nothing would change my body shape like weight training, so I got chalean extreme. I usually hate weight training, but this is fantastic. It has compound exercises (work more than 1 part at a time) and it changed my body shape like nothing else. I didn't lose pounds, but I lost tons of inches and became more compact and toned. I am prone to bulking with my body type (I'm short, broad shouldered and medium bone structure, if I was a man and I played football I would be a fullback LOL) but I didnt bulk with this program. The results come slowly and the last month is really where drastic change takes place (It's a 90 day program.) I ended up adding an additional cardio day on the rest day. (It's a five day a week program, and I need to work out 6 days)

P90x- This is a great weight training program. However, I got really REALLY bored. Unlike Chalene, Tony focuses on one or two parts at a time. I just had trouble sticking with this. I found his jokes got old fast and so did the workouts.

    Turbojam/Turbofire
This is a cardio series by the same woman who does Chalean Extreme and I am absolutely HOOKED to it. Turbojam is more beginner/intermediate. Turbofire is intermediate/advanced. The music is fantastic and keeps you motivated. I've been doing turbojam/turbofire off/on for over a year and I have not gotten bored with the workouts. It's cardio kickboxing set to great music and is really fun. I find the more I do it, the more fun it gets because you really learn the routine and can put more intensity each time

    Insanity
Oh Shaun T how I love thee!! Insanity is an advanced workout series, 60 days in length, 6 days a week. I consider myself intermediate/advanced and this DVD is bananas! I started out following the calendar exactly, but found, because I have joint issues in my knees and lower back, that I cannot maintain an intense pace like this for 6 days a week. That being said, I LOVE this series and add it into my rotation 2-3 times a week. Even though it is high impact, I do sometimes modify by not jumping so high or not jumping at all depending on what my body tells me. Some days I am painfree and able to push myself. This DVD is one that you can keep doing to test your own improvement. Shaun T encourages you to take breaks and go at your pace. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this series

    BOTTOM LINE
**If you like cardio and need a slower pace series, slim in 6 is good. Seeing how you are done with JM, I would suggest a more intermediate level workout.

Chalean Extreme will give you AMAZING results if you stick with it. My problem is I started it heavy. Once I did a cardio program and lost about 10lbs I was ready to tone. If you are significantly overweight, you run the risk of building muscle under a layer of fat and looking bulky. I would cut some weight first and then tone. But this is what I do, because it's what works for my body type, I can't lift when my bodyfat is high or I look like a linebacker.

    Turbojam/Turbofire/Insanity
As a cardio junkie, I am hooked on these workouts. I never get too bored with them and I find the more I do them, the better I get and I strive to improve each time I do it.

I AM NOT A BEACHBODY COACH, and have nothing to gain by endorsing these. I really love their workout programs. Please feel free to message me if you want more info on each DVD.

I had lost 20 lbs with the ten week challenge of Turbo Jam. It was a very fun workout and came with measure tape. I weighed in the first day and weighed 125. It didn't weight myself or measure myself during the program till the final day. I dropped from a size 5 jean to size 3 and final weight was 105. Yes that was very thin so I gained some weight back since then, but the workouts were great. You should look into it.

Slim in 6 is a great workout for beginners, but there are only 3 cd's so it gets very boring doing the same thing every day. If you are looking specificaly for a beachbody dvd I would go with either Turbo Fire or Insnaity..depending on your fitness level. I like to rotate the two. Good luck!

I did Chalene Extreme and Slim in Six.

I finished Slim in Six, but not Chalene Extreme, because I got injured during the workout.

Slim in Six uses lower weights, but a lot of reps and lasts about an hour. I got great results doing this and bought the slim series (which I love) when I was done. You do each DVD for 2 weeks for a total of 6 weeks. I found the first dvd to be fairly easy, but they ramp up quickly in dvd 2 and 3.

Chalene uses heavy weights and low reps and combines it with HIIT on "off" days. I definitely gained muscle, but didn't slim down like I did with Slim in Six.

I've also used Power 90, P90X and Turbo Jam. I'm not a big fan of Tony Horton (Power 90 and P90X). I get bored with the workouts really quickly.

I love Chalene, Turbo Jam is a lot of fun. It's mostly cardio, but has a few weight workouts. I often use it on opposite days from slim series (which is mostly toning).

WOW thanks for all that info. I am also short and med build with broader shoulders... Even though i have done 30ds twice and i am doing ripped in 30, i still classify myself as a beginner. I am definitely in better shape then i was 4 months ago but i am not ready for intermediate/ advanced workouts yet imo..... so it sounds like slim in 6 is 1 hr workout, what about turbo jam.. I am still looking for about a 30 min dvd, this way i can MAKE sure i get it in daily with NO excuses...... I really am hoping to find a dvd that is 30-40 min max and had a good amount of cardio and toning in it all together! is that possible? I guess if i can afford it i will get slim in 6 and turbo jam and do them off days from each other... but was hoping i could find one and with the time length i was looking for...

I don 't have a ton of weight to loose, i am 6-7 lbs from my goal, i am 5 ft 2 inches, and anywhere from 130-132, goal of 125. But if i don't get there that's ok as long as i can slim and tone. My problem right now is i am inbetween sizes... i can fit some 7/8 but not all brands yet but then a 9/10 is way to big! so as long as i can get into a 7/8 in any brand i wear i will be 100% happy!

oh an dhow long is Chalean Extreme?

Hey there. You're very welcome! I love sharing information. Most of the workouts in general are 45-60 minutes. However there are a few quick workouts. These are called HIITs-high intensity interval training. These are in turbofire and range in length from 15, 20, 25 and 30 minutes.

Chalean Extreme workouts are 30-40 minute strength circuits with two interval cardio dvds that are about 40 minutes as well, though the stretch DVD is only 20 minutes long. So you do 3 strength circuits (1 every other day), then there are 2 interval cardio workouts and 2 rest days (including one "stretch day") The program has 3 phases: each 30 days long

What I would suggest if I may, is to try the "Turbojam: 5 Rockin Workouts DVD": It has 5 workouts on one DVD
1-15 minute Learn and Burn: this routine shows you the proper form for many of the moves in the turbojam/turbofire series. I find myself coming back to this just to correct my form.
2- 20 minute cardio workout: a nice good quick cardio routine
3- turbosculpt: 35-40 minutes strength training circuit w weights
4-a 45 minute "cardio party" full cardio workout and
5- a 20 minute "ab jam": a core/ab workout that occurs in two 10 minute segments: standing ab work and traditional ground work (I sometimes do just the standing or ground portion depending on time and energy)

This would be a great intro to turbojam and to seeing if you like Chalene's style before committing to buying a whole system. I bought my dvd used on amazon for about 25 bucks (shhhh, don't tell beachbody) including shipping. Not too shabby for 5 workouts! If you get bored quickly following a routine, slim in 6 probably will bore you.

Since you are coming from a Jillian background, Turbo Jam would probably work out fine for you. I find the TurboSculpt to be not enough bang for my buck, but I love the Cardio Party and Punch, Kick & Jam workouts. I only say that about TurboSculpt because I am used to lifting ChaLEAN-style, though. After 30DS and Ripped, I think you'd probably like TurboSculpt. Check Craigslist, because you may be able to pick up TurboJam (or one of the other systems) for not a whole lot of money - I got TJ for $20, and that included the weighted gloves (which, for the record, make a nice difference in the calorie burn).

If you want to challenge yourself a bit more, though (and you have the right weights or are willing to get them), I think you should try ChaLEAN, though. Building lean muscle will make your body a much more efficient machine that burns more calories, and you will come in a smaller, tighter package.

    Whatever you choose, good luck!
