I am having a spinal fusion on Thursday! I hit my goal weight back in December and have been maintaining well. I now have so much pain, I can barely walk. I hope to somehow maintain my weight loss and get back to my exercise regimen ASAP. Anyone out there with a similar scenario? Any advice.

I wish you the very best with that. A good friend of mine recently had that done and she is now pain free and was immediatley after the surgery.

I know no good advice but like I said, very best wishes!!

I had a fusion at my L5-S1 several years back, was in a hard body brace for about 3 months but I'm a success story. I became sedentary throughout this ordeal and have been attempting to "get back" to my pre-surgery weight since then. My biggest advise is be very careful and GO SLOW!!! My biggest obstacle was thinking I could just do what I used to do but I can't . . . just yet. When I overdo it, I inflame my tissues and cause myself pain and discomfort. This time I am going slow. Be patient!!! Good luck to you!

Thanks to both of you! I am now 2 weeks out and I have actually LOST weight! The advice about taking it slow is spot on! I was having leg cramps and my husband, who works in surgery with
him, asked him about them and he said she is doing too much!!

I had a lower lumbar fusion in 2009...lI hope your results are as wonderful as mine have been. It was a long recovery and I would suggest doing a lot of walking as much as you can because you will have to rebuild all of your muscles...I did not walk I laid and I paid for it. I know it is a scary procedure and I wish you the best.

I am now 8 weeks post-op and pain free! I walk over an hour a day! I have been working my arms chest and back using a 5 pound weight and it has paid off well. I got the go ahead from my surgeon to start to work my abdominals 2 weeks ago and that has helped tremendously as well! I acually did a little lawn mowing today!!
