It's a total myth. There is no such thing as a negative calorie. No food burns more in digestion than it contains.0

I fell for that one back in the late '70s or early '80s, eating too many hard boiled eggs has some interesting consequences (weight loss not being among them) :laugh:0

Like I said. Only birthday calories are negative calories0

A calorie is a unit of measure for energy. If something had negative calories, it wouldn't exist.0

Someone should give those negative calories a flower or tell them a funny joke. There's no room for negativity on my food diary!0

I doubt you can blow your diet snacking on celery, though. At least if you eat it plain.0 -
It is not a negative calorie, however, I have known people who choose not to log things like lettuce and pay more attention to logging toppings on salads for instance.
I personally log everything I eat, however, I do not track 0 calorie drinks (ex: diet coke).0 -

Agree! I don't log some teas that don't have calories. Also I don't log the fish oil I take that has ten calories either! I don't find that a big deal to me.0 -

Seriously? Why would you report a discussion?0 -
I've read the claims, but still haven't seen the science behind it. I've read various rationale for why it seems like it should work, but no published demonstrations of a food that really does take more calories to burn than it provides.
It seems reasonably safe to say that water has a negative-calorie effect. Other than that... where's the evidence?0 -
