Eating 1200 - 1350 Calories a day and not losing weight.

Hi everyone,

Just coming for some advice. I am 20 years old, 165 cm (5'5) and 57 kgs (126 - 7 lbs). Following the MFP app for a couple of months. Started eating the 1350 calories that it requested me to and lost 4.5 kgs (9 or 10 lbs). Though at the moment I am not losing anymore weight. I lost the first 4 kgs in 3 weeks, though the scale is not moving. I try and be active, I walk 2 km's 5 days a week and on top of that am trying to get 30 mins of cycyling in 4 times a week. Because of my weight loss I readjusted the app and it advised me to eat 1200 calories a day. Is this too little? Is that why I am not losing weight anymore?
Should be noted that I am small framed and naturally thin - though due to having depression have taken the medications seroquel and pristiq for the last two years, which caused my weight to go from 52 (115 lbs) to 62 kgs or more (135lbs).
Anyone have any advice or is anyone taking psychiatric meds also? (Am off seroquel as of 4 days ago :) )

I'm the same height and weight, but without any meds. My body loses if I eat less than I burn and my maintenance kcal are in the mid 2000s! On 1200 I lost waaaaay too fast! In fact, 2000kcal + exercise kcal is a diet for me.

My only advice would be to try something different if, after a month, it hasn't started working. Personally I'd try upping calories/exercise first.

    Good luck!

I'd personally stay at the higher cals. If you're that close to your weight no need to deny yourself.

What are you wanting to change from those 4-5kg?

I'm exactly the same. Well, I'm 5'6 and 125lbs. id like to lose another 4 pounds ideally and my daily calories are at 1200. I work out pretty much every day. I sometimes eat all the exercise calories back, but depends on how hungry i am. I have stayed at the same weight though for about 6 weeks, occassionally it goes up but it never seems to go down anymore. If anyone has any advise id appreciate it :)

It also depends in what you are eating...You can hit your cal count but if your not eating right weight wont come down....Ive found that if I eat pasta but stay in my count my weight doesnt drop but im ok eating rice.

I have the same problem, I think it is because, technically, we are at a healthy weight for our height already and so our bodies just don't want to lose it.
  • Thanks for your replies.
I think I might try something different like suggested, maybe more calories and more exercise. Might just have to accept that I will not lose anymore weight! (Or is this a cop out, lol). Was wanting to lose another 5 kgs in order to get back to my old weight and my old clothes :)
