Hi all,
I'm sure everyones heard it all before.... but im not losing weight! I'm actually putting it on!
I am giving it time - thats me been doing loads of exeercise and keepng check on what i eat since Middle of jan.
I did stop doing the food tracker - most of my food is home made so it was taking an awful long tine to put it in the computer each night.
I am 5' 1" (155cm), now 9st 13lb again (back to what i was in january). I typically eat 1600cal - 1800cal a day (i am vegetarian - 3/5pieces fruit a day, loads of vegetables, i weigh out portions for pasta/grains, have chocolate about twice a week, a couple (literally 2!!) beers once a week, don't drink wine).
I had slowly slowly got down to 9st 7lb, and all ive been doing since then is putting weight back on. Ive been checking the scales every day as its just acting so odd. For instance, last week on tuesday morning i was 9st 8lb. that day i did a 4hour hike, then did 2hours of rock climbing at the indoor center in the evening. I ate cereal, pasta, a biscuit and quorn chili with rice and a pita bread. The next morning i was 4lb heavier!!! Just doesn't make sense! My trousers are very slightly baggier - i'm talking 2cm by the tape measure, but nothing to write home about considering all the exercise i am doing, and lack of eating sweets/cakes/takeaways for 4months!
My body seems to do huge weight gains overnight, then takes a week to go down in weight again but never goes to the low it was at to start with.
Every week i do 2 nights (about 2hours) of rock climbing, 1 body pump class, 1 or 2 one hour sessions of squash/badminton, and join in with my other half when our shifts match up with him doing the p90x workout dvd's if i can.
I don't really have time to get any more exercise in to be honest. In the summer i will be outside rock climbing and that's a whole day activity. I can go to the gym in work (i do 12hour shifts though so would really not like to make my day longer) i find treadmills/elliptical trainers/rowing machines really boring though even with my music on!
Why i want to lose weight.... I'm too heavy to drag myself up the climbing wall and progress with grades! I have a lot more technique than i used to, but about 3 years ago i was about 8.5st, and could climb harder moves and last longer because there was 1.5st less of me to carry around! I'm just climbing with so much extra of me that i'm making it very difficult for myself! The weight grew on me over the last 3 or 4 years as i went to a completely sedentary job from a countryside ranger.
What on earth am i going to do? i need to lose weight, and the more exercise i do the heavier i get!
I don't even mind if i lose muscle as well as fat at the moment because i can build muscle up later easier than i can lose fat!
That's over 3months now, i think I've given my body a good chance to get its act together but its not playing ball!
If i eat less then i really am rumbling-tummy hungry, and occasionally light headed. But maybe i will just have to accept that to lose weight! This is really doing my head in, and making me feel so deflated when i weigh myself the next week. I just think, "oh well, the 9hours of exercise i've done last week was completely pointless, why do i even bother?"
Help! (and sorry its so long!)
Lynsey.

Hey. I am sort of like you, but I don't put on as much (like 2lbs). It is probably 1 of 3 things. 1) you ate just before you weighed your self. 2) hormones. I hate them too, they make you feel bloated and you but on pounds. 3) you are gaining muscle mass, which is good, because the more muscle you have the more fat you burn. Hope it helps0

I feel for you - you sound like your doing a lot. I know it's frustrating. I was hoping to read some constructive advice. I haven't been at this for quite so long as yourself but I have been gaining, losing, staying the same, but generally not much has changed on the scales or the tape measure in the last few weeks. I've just started kettlebells and I'm trying to be optimistic that this will help me change things up a notch.
good luck and sorry I can't offer any advice. x0 -

I always weigh myself in the morning before breakfast. I have been weighing myself for more than once a week just now as i just dont understand whats going on. An awful lot of the time i put on 3 or 4lb overnight (i.e weighing myself both mornings). I swear i would not have eaten that weight of food/liquid so how could it be!0 -

That would be annoying! When will my body get in to the swing of things and stop doing that? Surely when i'm doing a lot of exercise i shouldn't continually get heavier and heavier! Arghhhh!!!!
The my fitness pal BMR did say i should only have 1230cals a day. Maybe i should drop it right down and not 'eat the exercise' ones back. Its just on a day that i'm not doing exercise (generally work days) keeping to 1230 cals is really difficult (then when it dropped a touch lower... 1199cal it would moan at me! 1230 cal BMR doesnt give me much leeway each way!0 -
I did stop doing the food tracker0

Have you tried playing around with what you're eating? Maybe up the protein and drop the carbs and sugars? I know for me personally, I do better when I keep carbs under 130gms sugar under 30. I don't know if that would work for you, but it can't hurt to try. Whatever you do, just don't give up.0
