low sodium hamburger helper taco dish
I'm sure this has been posted before, but I thought I'd share again.
I made homemade hamburger helper taco style this week...VERY low sodium!!! the worst thing in it was the cheese!!! I copied and pasted from different web sites and cant remember the sources, sorry, but I tried this and it was great.
Taco seasoning mix
1 tbsp. chili powder
2 tsp. onion powder
1 tsp. each ground cumin, garlic powder, paprika, oregano and black pepper
1/2 tsp. salt (optional)
Mix all ingredients together in a small bowl. Makes 3 tablespoons of seasoning mix, which is equal in strength to a 1/4 ounce package of commercial seasoning mix.
I read in a lot of reviews to add 2 tablespoons of flour or cornstarch too, so the mixture sticks to the meat. I did, and its true.
Now...for the hamburger helper lol

put back in the pan and add and mix well the seasoning milk and cheese let it come to a slight boil
add the pasta, simmer til sauce is thickened and pasta tender(about 10 minutes)

I also found a great blog posting at http://chickensintheroad.com/cooking/homemade-hamburger-helper/ that gives simple instructions for: Chili Mac, Lasagna, Cheesy Beef Taco, Beef Stroganoff, Potato Stroganoff, Salisbury, Cheesy Italian Shells, Cheesy Jambalaya, and Cheeseburger Macaroni. As with anything is up to the individual to make it more or less healthy, but great ideas!!0

Thanks for sharing, sounds fantastic!0

This does sound delicious! I might just make the meat and fill it in Romaine wraps with cheese and salsa minus the macaroni.0
