Starvation mode....

Ok, so I completely understand the whole starvation idea if we do not eat our exercise calories. I LOVE that we get to eat them! Most nights I end up with 100-150 calories left that go uneaten. Is that ok, or do I really need to cover EVERYTHING so I don't go into starvation? I know that the machines calorie count is probably not accurate and maybe some of my food measuring isn't either (though I do my best). so is it ok to figure that 100-150 as covering those errors?
Today I did a lot of activity and just couldn't eat any more tonight! But, I read so much about the starvation thing, that I worry.

I also recommend looking at your weekly totals. If you stay w/in weekly totals and don't deviate too much, you should be ok.
The type of foods you eat that day may also matter, some foods are more filling than others and have equal or less amount of calories than the not so ful-filling foods. So take that factor into consideration. I think if u only have 100-150 calories left u should be ok.
My advice for a more accurate & definate answer would be to ask a certified nutritionist or a doctor who specializes in gastric type medicine/practices.0 -
You're right, machines show only estimates. You can buy heart rate monitor.
Counting calories is also not 100% accurate (you would have to weigh EVERYTHING and read nutritional informations all the time) so I guess 100-150 calories under can be acceptable sometimes.
Other thing is that BMR from this or other websites is also an estimate. Ex. 1lb of muscles burns 50cals/day and 1lb fat only 5cals/day so the less % bodyfat you have, the less you burn. There are other factors as well.
I guess there's no way to know precisely how much you should eat and how much your body uses up without specialist equipment...
Good news is that our body can accept both - a little too much or too little - in the short run before it switches to starvation mode.
Coming back to your question - I would leave this 100-150 cals if I exercised (especially without HRM) and I'm not hungry, but try to reach your goal the next day.0 -
