un expected motivation

I recently started getting into listening to podcasts when im at the gym because i get sick of the same music on my workouts.

one of my favorites is Joe Rogans podcast its called The Joe Rogan Experience if your interested and they are free downloads on itunes. anyway he has guests on every week and they talk about alot of conspiracy theories, comedy, and health . well yesterday at work i was listening to him and he had a guest on that was another comic who had some kind of mental breakdown a year ago, and the guy kept bringing up how he was going to get back in shape, going to start going to the gym, etc. repeatedly he said this probably 5 or 6 times during the podcast. and Rogan stopped him and told him to stop saying what he was" going" to do, write it down as what needs to be done and just f**king do it! he said he does 200 hindu squats as soon as he wakes up and the only reason he does them is to get them out of the way because he hates them. i was down about the 1 month pics not showing any progress when i listened to this and was just gonna go home and go to bed after work, but he said he writes down what exercises he has planned for each day and will not go to sleep untill they are completed. so even though i didnt get off work till 10pm i went straight to the gym and completed what needed to be done. i have alot of respect for Rogan for telling this dude the way it is, most hollywood people wouldnt have the balls to confront somebody about something like this. it got me motivated when i didnt want to go to the gym

  • I follow a fitness programme, Insanity and turbofire, and even when I don't feel like working out, I do it as I want to complete the programme. If I didn't have a calendar, I probably wouldn't workout everyday

Yep, he definitely tells it like it is. Don't always love what he says but I like people who are honest and call BS. Glad you found your kick in the butt.

he said he does 200 hindu squats as soon as he wakes up and the only reason he does them is to get them out of the way because he hates them.
    ...

That's a great idea! Plus a great addition for my exercise routine. I refuse to go to a gym for anything beyond treadmills in the snowy/icy season, so I'm always looking for more bodyweight exercise options.

from what he was saying they start out easy but get insanely hard to do and more painfull as you go, but also says it helps him get through other things that come up in the day knowing that he pushed himself through 200 squats. im gonna drop a few more lbs before i shoot for 200 but i want to give these a try too
  • Jay and silent Bob for the win!!! :D Cheers for the info too :D

Yeah, it's a slow start. I made it through about 20 and was breathing heavily. Now I just need to figure out how to categorize it on MFP. I can see this becoming part of a daily wake-up routine, though.
