So I'm really wanting to take up running, but I want some motivation and predictions on the kind of results I'll see if I couple running with a healthy diet.

Anything to share, Runners? Where you lose your inches, how running makes you feel, weight-loss success?
I'm all ears!

I run, but I find I have to eat a lot just to maintain weight. It will totally shred the weight off if you let it. An 8 mile run will burn 1500 calories easily.

On a really large person, yes. On an average-sized woman the burn is closer to 100 calories/mile.
  • My calfs are incredibly defined, but i don't know as far as weight is concerned. It feels like i haven't lost anything in the last 6 months that i have been working hard to improve my weight.
  • I've been running for seven weeks while dieting also and have lost 16.4 pounds in that time all from running. I first started at running 3 days a week doing a mile and a half while doing cross training the rest of the days. But i kept gradually building up and this morning i am up to 3 miles :) But ive found a lot of success from running! A lot of tone and definition! First 5k in couple weeks!
  • I am on week 15 - not a whole lot of weight loss but my body is definitely undergoing a change. I started at around 10 miles per week and worked myself up to 30 miles per week and now i am almost at 300 miles for the year! My abs are harder then I ever remember - and my legs are starting to look a lot more defined...i am not as obsessed about the scale as I used to be because I can feel the results and I love those long runs :)

I'm closer to this. About 100 calories a mile. But if I run a few and walk a few, the walking ones have a higher burn. (according to my HRM)

I've been running for about 3 weeks now. I just completed a 10k this weekend, The Crescent City Classic, and it was easy for me. In the past 3 weeks I've dropped about 6 lbs. but prior to that I had already dropped 63 lbs. I have actually been trying like hell to maintain weight some days because there are times when it seems like no matter what I eat it isn't enough. I can definitely notice more definition in my legs and seems like my upper body is looking better than before as well. Prior to this I never ran just to run and I am finding it to be more and more enjoyable every time I go out.

I find I'm around 100 calories a mile as well, I really have been slimming down and losing with running. It is my main exercise 95 percent of what I do. My mid section has really slimmed down and although I am only about half way, I knw it is working.
  • I went from a really bad plateau and working my *kitten* off on the elliptical to running and loosing two pounds right away! It was really refreshing. Also, running is more of a challenge, and for me, its more exciting and I find I sweat more. Also I'm finding my waist line is really diminishing as I run, my butt stays around the same but I've lost three or four inches around the middle from running and I also notice don't have a big of a 'pooch' anymore and my inner thighs are much more toned :)

I'm not large, I weigh 117lbs, wear a HRM & run on a road that has some hills.
