another CARB post!!!!!!!!

i was just reading through some other carb posts, and have a question. it seems to be a very controversial topic!!! but my question is, some people claim that they feel horrible and tired and crummy if they dont get carbs every day, while others say they feel crummy and horrible if they eat high carbs every day. why is this? (and by carbs i mean mostly starchy foods. i know fruits and veggies are carbs)

Different people, different bodies. Just like some people are lactose intolerant or have issues with gluten, some people don't do well with carbs.
  • so then why all the controversy? im not trying to be argumentative but if thats the case, which i think it is, why does everyone get so heated over it? people touting that carbs are the enemy and other touting carbs are necessary.

Lack of middle ground and ridiculous claims by both sides, in which neither side can or will substantiate such claims.

Despite what people think, I'm not anti low carb, I am anti nonsense though

Some people are dogmatic about this weight loss thing.

When someone is at a plateau or is stalled, I always tell them to try low carb for a few weeks to see what happens. That's a good indicator to see how their body reacts to carbs.

yeah ive noticed that after reading some of your posts. it seems silly to me to have all this controversy over it. if you have hit a plateau, change up your diet and see if it helps. what is the big deal with people freaking out over it?

My take on it is that they don't like change. Or they may be hungry. Or forums in general are confrontational....

I am a low-fat, high carb dieter. To be specific, I am a starch based eater, I follow John McDougall's diet.

I understand that some people like to go through ketosis to lose weight, some don't. That is, a low-carb diet.

There is nothing wrong with that approach, people do things differently.

I do have my opinions but in all honesty, I don't care which way anyone diets, just get to your ideal bmi and avoid cancer and other diseases and live a healthy and happy life.

It would be much easier if ignorant claims were held back, but some people can't help it. Then factor in that certain dietary camps get over defensive about their way of eating which leads to things getting heated, see paleo/low carb/vegetarians/vegas/HCG users etc

I find that anytime I tell people I try to keep to low carbs they act like I offered to murder kittens or something. I think it beause many traditional comfort foods are carbs...and nobody wants to give up the comfort. I thought the same thing in the beginning...what no rice or pasta or bread! That and we need to believe strongly about whatever dieting style we are following....we need to keep that faith and that's where it gets heated. Its kind of like politics or religion....people need to believe they are right. Its a shame cuz I have felt shunned and a lot of times won't discuss it with others cuz I really don't know the science...I just know my body feels better and loses when I am careful of my carbs intake.....with that said everyone is very different n what works for me may not work for others.
P.S. When purging carbs + sugar from your system there is def a nasty period where your body almost goes thru withdrawls....that's the nasty feeling people experience.....but if u can push thru then things tend to even out as long as your mental follows. If your body can handle it but u are pining away for starchy goodness then it won't work for u. I know once I made it thru the dark period I felt great and am not too tempted anymore. Just my experience if it helps. Lol

It's natural for many to find reasons why certain foods are the cause of weight gain and at the same time unable to balance reasoning to the middle ground and unfortunately find themselves supporting a extreme take on it.....otherwise we wouldn't be arguing.
  • I just find high protein and high fat foods more filling than high carb foods. Its really easy to gorge on some high carbs foods and get a lot of cals, but things like chicken breast are a lot more filling for their calories.

I feel horrible when I eat carbs :( I'm more hungry, and every morning wake up starving, with a weird sensation in my belly as if I haven't eaten for days, I also have weird sugar cravings :( I stuck to a 25 net carb daily goal during Lent (I had a couple slip up days), but I have never felt better! I was satisfied all the time, felt happy, no cravings. High protein and fat is my way to go for a while :)

I'm an IIFYM guy through and through so I just make sure I get min protein & fats and fill the rest with carbs. This could be considered "low" somedays and "high" others days. The only thing I'd say is that I can get pretty damn bloated on high carb days.

I've also done very low carb and fat diet at the same time and THIS makes you feel like **** after about a week or so. Energy levels WAY down. Short term good for fat loss, not so good for moodiness or energy.

Moral: middle ground is the go. No need to go to extremes (unless you want to be moody and lack energy for the sake of weight loss )

    Personal choice / results....

For me, I'm more satisfied and not hungry when eating in a deficit but eating low carb. If I eat the same calorie count with carbs in the mix, I'm much more likely to feel hungry and go over my calorie limit for the day.

I think one of the reason the low-carb'ers get a bad rap is that some of people start Atkins or similar and never transition out of the induction phase which is only supposed to last a few weeks. Most people will not be healthly eating only 20g of carbs a day for 10 months! Another common flaw is pigging out on meat and not eating veggies... Again, following most of the low-carb diets, they're very heavy on veggies but are a little restrictive on fruits and high-sugar veggies..

And as was stated... everyone must be right... especially on the world-wide-inter-web,.,,

This might help explain why some people tolerate carbs better than others.
