I Just Started using MFP.Today is my Third Day and i am unsure if i am doing it right. My Food Log say My Daily Goal is 1,982

Today after i complete MY Food Log it Said

If every day were like today... You'd weigh 217.6 lbs in 5 weeks MAKE ADDITIONAL ENTRIES
*Based on your total calories consumed for today, you are eating too few calories. Not only is it difficult to receive adequate nutrition at these calorie levels, but you could also be putting your body into starvation mode. Starvation mode lowers your metabolism and makes weight loss more difficult. We suggest increasing your calorie consumption to 1,200 calories per day minimum.

My Height is 5'1
I weight 236 My First Goal is to Lose 36 Pounds
I set My Goal to lose 2.0 lbs a week.
My Estimated BMR is: 1,768 calories/day*
I Am Doing The Biggest Loser Cardio Max & Some Strength Training Exercise For 4 Days a week
Until i feel My Body & Myself Ready To Start Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred.

NUTRITIONAL GOALS GOALS
Net Calories Consumed* / Day is 1,560 calories/day

FITNESS GOALS GOALS
Calories Burned / Week 1,730 calories/week
Workouts / Week 5 Workouts
Minutes / Workout 40 mins

Basically My Questions is what is the Daily Calories am I suppose to Eat Daily & Burn working out Daily?
I am Afraid that i am Starving My Body and slowing my metabolism.

How much Calories should i eat 1,560 or 1,982?

Your daily goal should be whatever calories your food log says to eat. If you've worked out, MFP will add the calories you burn so that your NET calories for the day (what you eat minus what you burn) are still in line with your goal.

That's why the goal may be different every day -- depends on how much you burn! You want to eat those calories back :)

    I hope this helps!
  • Make sure you're eating foods with nutrients you need and not just foods to bump up you're caloric intake. Good luck!

Why do I want to eat those burnt calories back? I don't understand....I'm confused....wouldn't it be better to not eat the extra calories from exercise?

    First, welcome to MFP!!

And you're really wise to ask this question early in your weight loss before you start to stall and hit a plateau. I ate too few calories at the beginning of my weight loss. Yes, I lost weight quickly, but I hit a lot of plateaus and got to the point where I couldn't reduce my calories any further without feeling sick (and cranky).

From what I understand, you've set up your profile to lose 2 pounds per week and exercise 5 times per week. Correct? To me, it looks like MFP is giving you a daily calorie allowance of 1,560/day, but that's below your BMR (1,798). Your BMR is the minimum amount of calories your body needs to basic functioning (breathing, nervous system, circulatory system etc.). So it is recommended that you not go below your BMR. If you do, that's when you risk slowing down your metabolism. In fact, it is recommended that you eat closer to you at a deficit to your TDEE, Total Daily Energy Expenditure, which includes extra calories for your planned exercise.

There are a few calculators that I'd recommend to figure out your TDEE - http://www.fat2fitradio.com/tools/bmr/ or http://www.cordianet.com/calculator.htm or http://www.fitnessfrog.com/calculators/tdee-calculator.html

I'm a member of the group "Eat More, Weigh Less" on MFP that has a lot of people eating at TDEE and losing weight. Most people have been on plateaus for too long and decided to increase their calories and learned that they can still lose weight. But there are some newbies like you in the group also. Feel free to join and learn more.

    Good luck!

And I'm not being a smart *kitten*. I looked it up when I started here and the information really helped me. I hope it helps you too.

Because you are already set to lose 2# per week without exercise, which is a 7,000 calorie a week deficit. If you increase this deficit it could be detrimental. Your body needs fuel and it is how this site is designed.

I too am in this group, I eat 1954 calories a day. I only eat back my exercise calories if I want to eat something I shouldn't, and in the last 2 weeks I have lost 3 pounds and 6.5 inches. I don't go to bed hungry, and am not cranky, and I never feel deprived. For those of you who wish to leave snide remarks; don't knock it til you try it.

If your TDEE is 2883, I recommend you eat at a 15% deficit to that, so between 2400-2500 calories. If that number includes your exercise, you do not need to eat your exercise calories.

TDEE is what you eat to maintain your weight.
