BMI query

Hi. According to the BMI calculator here my BMI target weight range is 47.4kg - 64kg. I'm 160m and 64.6kg. 64kg to me is overweight, but 47.4kg? Honestly, I would disappear if I weighed that.
So how do they make that judgement? Ultimately I would like to be about 56kg.
Thanks.

BMI is a terribly flawed tool. Use a body fat percentage calculator as BMI does not take into account your body frame only height and I promise you there can be a big difference. My body fat % calculations tell me to have a % of 25-30% (in the healthy range for women my age) I'd weigh between 180 and 193 something. That is still overweight by 15-20 lbs according to BMI.0

BMI is only the ratio of your height to weight and does not really cater for specific types of bodies. For example most rugby players would be considered obese by BMI measurements, but obviously are not.
Try to get your body fat measurement which will enable you to work out what your ideal weight should be.0 -
Do this first: http://www.fat2fitradio.com/tools/mbf/
Then do this one using the % on the first test, and the chart on this page: http://www.fat2fitradio.com/tools/ibw/
It will then tell you what you can expect to weigh at an ideal body fat %0 -
I don't understand why BMI is also the same for men and women, Men are usually heavier than women because of more muscle.
There should at least be different bmi scale for men and women,
or not???0 -

I'm 162CM, when I looked up my healthy range I found out it was 52-66kg. Try looking up a range as opposed to a specific weight. And yes BMI is flawed. For 160cm it is 51-64kg. I got that from

I think it is more about fat % and how we feel than an arbitrary number.0 -
So really 57.5 is right smack in the middle of your range, not far off of the 56 that is your goal.0

Thanks. Glad I don't need to aim for 47kg! :-)0

Agree with all above. BMI is very outdated - it was created in 1830 and was originally used to measure across the population. So it is inaccurate. Please don't focus on BMI, but focus on your body0
