Am I Just Getting More Fit?

When I first started working out and using my HRM I burned about 300-325 calories for a 3.5 pace walk. Now I am noticing that for a 3.5 pace walk, with some minutes of jogging at 4.0 pace I end up only burning about 250-275. Perhaps this means I am getting fit?! If so, GREAT, but I guess now I have to work even harder to get the same calorie burn as before! Anyone else experienced this?

That's the way it works, the more fit you become the easier things become. When your body gets more used to it, efficient=lower heart rate=lower calories burned, it is time to step it up a notch. Great job on the fitness gain!0

That's exactly how it works! And, as you lose weight, movement becomes easier. Keep it up, and work harder!0

Sounds like you are!
I've noticed this with my jogging lately too.0 -
you definitely are!! keep it up0

Yes it is happening to me too, and my resting pulse has dropped considerably0

thats what i hear, your body adjusts and you have to work harder the more fit you are. also make sure you're changing the weight on your HRM to your current weight. good luck with everything!0

Yes, it's normal.0

Yes! Between losing weight, and conditioning your muscles, your calorie burn will decrease over time. At least you have the HRM, so you should be able to push yourself into that target range. Your weight loss will still affect calorie burn, though, even w/ the same level of exertion.0

It is also happening to me as well!! My resting heart rate dropped tons too!! I went from having a resting heart rate of 85-90 to 70-75 to me that is crazy!! I also had to switch up my workout routine because my body was getting use to doing the same thing and it wasn't recognizing it as work any more!! Keep up the awesome work0

I would think your metabolism would go up though by exercising regularly so the drop during exercise would be almost moot ... of course, I'm no expert so I could be totally wrong. :-)0

Yes, the more fit you get, the harder you need to work to burn same amount of calories (or the less you burn as your body becomes more efficient). At least, this is how I understand it.0
