Whey Protein Powder?

I like to make smoothies after a workout sometimes. I'll mix either a banana, strawberries or another fruit with a scoop of vanilla whey protein powder and ice. I know that a lot of people that weight train use protein shakes. Someone told me the other day that I should avoid whey protein if Im trying to loose weight. But I've never heard that before. So Im just wondering if that's true?

  • Don't really know where that would come from. Whey protein is just an easy way to supplement needed protein instead of getting it from food.

I've supplemented with whey protein for years and I am down 170lbs from my highest weight. (yes I've gone back up and down here and there but not because of whey protein) Actually the only times I do lose a good amount is when I am supplementing like I am supposed to.

I've never heard of that either.

Personally, I stick with Whey Protein ISOLATE, it has the most purest form of protein and is safer for lactose intolerant people since it has minimal lactose. On the other hand, Whey Protein CONCENTRATE isn't as pure, has less protein per serving and more lactose, which may cause issues with those that are lactose intolerant.

I drink a shake after every workout. Since I've been more diligent about getting more protein, I have lost weight more steadily.
  • Thanks guys! I just wanted to make sure. Its good to know, because I look forward to my protein shakes after my workouts
