Womens' only area?

What's up with womens' only rooms in gyms? Aside from religious reasons, I can't imagine why anyone would want to use this area. I'm much more intimidated by women who I think are prettier than I am, and girls are way more likely to be snarky about weight, in my experience, than men.

What about you? Are you a womens' only girl? Or co-ed all the way?

I don't go to a gym, but if I did, Co-ed, all the way. If at least one good looking guy is in there, It would make me wanna stay and burn more calories off. lol yes I know I'm bad

I can see what you mean. Women tend to be more judgmental of each other than men are of women. I know it bugs me to see a woman come into the gym with full make-up on, and I would probably feel like I'm being sized up. Although, the idea of a women's only weight room sounds pretty nice. I'm too scared to weight train because of all the Hulks hanging around the weights -all- the time. Those guys stare at me just for looking into the room...

Wow. Seriously? I'm amazed at how sexist most gyms are nowadays. (Well, it's the people that are sexist, but you know what I mean.) I'm a beginner at strength training and -started- with 5 lb weights. Sheesh.

I am not usually a fan of women's only areas, because they seem to get stuck with the crappy hand me down equipment. But my gym actually has a nice women's only area. I don't use it, but I know many women who are not comfortable in coed gyms. I toured one gym where a group of guys were hanging out and (loudly) making crude comments about the women who were exercising. I have heard similar stories about other gyms and I think that is a big reason some prefer women's only.

luckily my new gym isnt like that, but my old gym was. there's wasnt an explicit "woman's area" but when i got the tour of the 2 story facility, i got the tour of the first floor where the weight machines, cardio equipment and mat/stretching area where there were some free weights and kettlebells. the downstairs had the lockers and ANOTHER weight room!. but they never even showed me that area. that's where the biog boy's weights were. and a frigging speed bag, and a punching bag!!

i didnt even know about that area until my trainer took me down there. when i told him i never got to see it during the tour he was like yeah i know for some reason they never show the ladies this part of the gym.
