I have the PolarFT40. There's a strap and a watch component. If I wear the strap and start my watch.. but either don't wear it on my wrist ( wear in pocket) or leave it on a shelf in my exercise class . .will it still work??
I'm not allowed to wear anything on my wrists in class, but I really want to know my calorie burn!

It should work if it is in your pocket. Or very close by. I once used it in yoga class, kept it in my towel at the top of my mat. It missed part of it but got most of the class. If you leave it on a shelf - probably not. What kind of class?

I've left the watch close to me while doing floor exercises or in the sauna and it continued to read my burn, etc. But I had it less than a foot away.

I have an ft4. I've got about a 2 foot range. Could you wear a tank top and loop it around the strap?

The chest strap has the electrodes and a small transmitter. The watch has the receiver and the electronics that decodes the radio signal from the chest strap. Even though manufacturers say the range is good up to 10 or 12 feet that's with NO obstructions. For reliable operation 6 feet is a better number. But they work together so if you wander more than a few feet from your watch it may not work well.
  • thanks guys! I looped it around my top :)

That's a good idea, strapping it around a tank top. I was doing some boxing today and my watch kept sliding down my arm (I wear it half way up on my forearm so my weighted gloves don't turn it off  ).
