Committed if it's already logged

Wondering if anyone else does this?

I cook a lot of meals at home and portion them out. I use the recipe calculator to work out calories per serve. I also plan my days and fill out my meals for the day to be sure I'm close to my goal.

My issue is - if I've logged it, I feel like I have committed to eating it and will keep eating it even if I'm full! It's bad I know, but it's hard to work out how much is left if you leave a few mouthfuls.

Or if I make something for dinner and it doesn't work out (ie tastes gross) I still feel like I should eat it because it's in my food diary.

Is this weird? Does anyone else do this?? I try and get as close to my daily calorie goal as possible so not eating a few mouthfuls would make a difference.

I plan out my meals ahead of time. I basically always eat what I planned.. none of my meals really make me feel "full".. I just feel satiated most of the day. Sometimes I'll change things around if I need/want to, but yours diary doesn't have to be set in stone. If you make something and it turns out bad, maybe have a back up plan.. like something easy that you know the calorie content of so you don't have to eat something you don't like.

If you eat everything but a few mouthfuls I wouldn't stress about it.. it's better to overestimate the calories you are eating by a few than underestimate anyway.

It's not weird per say, I find myself feeling obligated with what I've logged in my food diary too, and at times I feel like I just need to take a step back and not dwell on it so much because in the end, it's just a guideline, it doesn't take into account your hunger level or the tastiness of a new recipe you tried, or how much you ate the day before. Also, the actual calculations on MFP will never be 100% accurate.

Personally, I try not to stress so much about going 'over' my limit because I find that usually on the days I go over my calorie goal, I was quite a bit under the day before, and will be under tomorrow, so it evens out. I also input my own recipes, and while I usually measure and weigh all ingredients, I try to overestimate amounts a little bit.

Maybe try focusing on making a weekly calorie goal, and only log food just before you make it or after you've eaten? Your food diary is not set in stone, and you can edit it a thousand times in a single day!

If it's something I made involving a LOT of ingredients that turns out awful. I will save it as a meal, then delete every item for that meal in my diary, then re-add the meal and guesstimate how much I ate. For example if I think I ate 2/5ths of the meal, I would add the meal back and replace the 1 (whole meal) with .4... or something like that. MyFP will then do the math for me for every ingredient used. Then I just find something else to get me to my calorie goal. :\
  • I think I must be a little OCD when it comes to my diary!

I'm not worried about going a bit over, I always look at my weekly calories and know I have a good buffer.

I just feel bad if I can't eat it. It fits in my daily goal and I've committed to it so I will finish it all!

Same here! I log EVERYTHING, the night before. I plan my breakfast, pre-workout, post-workout, lunch and (sometimes) dinner. I like to log my exercise too so I know exactly what to do in the gym. Looking at the calories i've burnt makes me more committed and motivated to go through with the exercises I've logged! I feel great after knowing I've accomplished my daily goal :)
