Weight Loss Fitness Plan

Can anyone share or direct me to a source that will provide a suggested exercise routine that will be most effective for weight loss? My plan is to go to the gym M-W-F for an hour to an hour and a half each morning before work. Since I have never been to the gym or really worked out for weight loss before I am not sure if I should be doing all cardio, or mix in weight lifting. I am also looking for recommendations on a rotating set of exercise. For example maybe I do a rotation of three exercises on Mondays with two different rotations for Wednesday and Friday.
Let me know what has worked for you when weight loss was your primary objective. I am new to MFP so feel free to send a friend request! Thanks!

Hi there:
I really like Body for Life and the plan of eating and exersise. When done correctly the results are amazing. Before having children I was living proof.
I know it doesn't perfectly fit your schedule, but maybe someday it will.

Here is the link and probably sheets to track you performance. Alternating days you do cardio and weights - for Example - Monday - Cardio, Tuesday - Upper Body, Wednesday - Cardio, Thursday - Lower body, Friday - Cardio, Sat - Upper body and Sunday is free day.
It explains it better on the link, and at the bottom of the page I sent you is a great way to get the most out of your cardio. I am sure it is explained better on there than I can explain. Check out the whole website and some of the before and after pictures- they are kinda motivating. I know it works because I have been there.
I had a hard time with the concept I needed to build muscle to lose weight, but it has been key for me. If you have any questions or decide you like the program, it is what we do each morning so we can get on the same schedule and motivate each other. Good Luck!!!0 -
Starting Strength by Mark Rippetoe. All it requires is an hour a day, three days a week.
I've been doing a modified version of that program (StrongLifts 5x5 with a tiny bit of indulgent cardio thrown in) since mid-January and I've lost 5lbs and a whole pants size on top of putting on muscle (if I hadn't preserved muscle I probably would have lost more weight on the scale).
And I can out-squat my dad.0 -
Hey welcome! Well when I first started out I found that having 2 - 3 sessions with a personal trainer was unbelievably helpful - they were able to set up a plan for me according to the body shape results I was after and they were able to show me how the program worked and made sure I was confident with it.
If PT sessions aren't for you try checking out www.muscleandstrength.com for some pretty good weight programs which are targeted to certain goals (i.e. weight loss) just add some cardio and your done!0 -
Thanks so much! I will check it out!0
