Swollen neck question

I started working out again after being really sick for a good 2 months and I have noticed that my neck feels swollen right where my thyroid is located (equally on both sides). I was wondering if this is a normal thing when getting back into an exercise routine, that I just never noticed before, or if it is something I should be bringing up to my doctor??

Any suggestions would be appreciated :)

It could be your thyroid. A friend of mine noticed similar swelling and that's what it was.

Was it something serious for your friend or just an effect of starting an exercise routine??

Definitely get it checked out! I noticed swelling in my neck a few years ago and chalked it up to being sick and having related swollen glands or something. Well, it wasn't and a few months later I had half of my thyroid removed.

You may want to take some pictures and monitor it for a little while just to be sure it isn't temporary and related to exercising (I'm not sure how it could be,though). But definitely see your doctor if it's still there in a week or so.

Thanks, I tried to google it and nothing came up about it being exercise related but the onset just coincided with me starting to exercise again so I wasn't sure. I will make an appointment with my doc!

Could be lymph nodes too, if it's bilateral and if you've been sick for a couple months. At any rate, go get it checked out!

No, nothing to do with exercise. He noticed it shaving one day and he needs surgery, so I'd recommend you get it checked out sooner rather than later. I'm a bit obsessed with the thyroid as hypothyroidism runs in my family and my mother forced me to go to the Dr as I felt fine and couldn't be bothered. Generally speaking, thyroid issues are fairly easily resolved, so try not to worry too much about it.

My neck swelled over probably 4-5 months and when I finally went to the doctor about it it turned out that I had graves disease and a thyroid that was enlarged by 4 times its regular size. I needed radioactive idodine treatment to stop my hyperthyroidism and was consiquently hypothyroid which I take replacement every day for it.
