How to fix an elliptical machine?

I've got an elliptical machine that is stuck on the highest resistance level. I tried working out on it and barely made it 5 minutes - I have to put the majority of my weight on each foot pad to make it move.
It's a fairly low end machine and it adjusts using a digital up & down arrow pad. Anybody have any idea what could be wrong or how to fix it??? I LOVE working out on it and we don't have it in our budget right now to replace this thing. We tried new batteries and holding down the on/reset button but nothing has worked.
HELP!

when i first got my treadmill i went to youtube to see if there were any reviews on it. what i DID find were all types of repairs videos. so you might be able to find something on youtube about repairing your eliptical. it's worth a try anyway. I know where to go now at least if my treadmill is stuck on an incline.0
