If you consume a lot of sodium one day is there a way to lower it? Does drinking a lot of water help?

I started tracking my sodium and I couldn't believe how high certain foods are like my wraps and cottage cheese!! I'm wondering why no weight is coming off when I think I'm eating pretty darn good and I see I'm consuming double in sodium than I should be...makes sense then! :) I've increased my water intake hoping that maybe I can flush it out so to say....I don't know if that even possible LOL...wishful thinking maybe. :) So I'm looking forward to your responses. :)

Drink as much water as possible to flush out all of the sodium!!
  • There is a lot of salt (sodium) hidden in lots of foods that we buy. You do have to be sure to check the label and buy the lower salt version where possible. The highest contributors of salt to our diet are breads and breakfast cereals - not because they are the saltiest products we eat, but because we eat so much of them, and we don't even expect salt to be in these products. Other products to watch out for are fresh soup, sandwiches and takeaway salads - the dressings often contain lots of salt, processed meats and all ready meals. Just to note that either salt or sodium might be on the label. salt is sodium chloride.

Reducing salt will help you lose weight as salt makes you retain water. Drinking lots of water will NOT flush out the sodium. The best way to reduce your salt intake is to reduce the amount you eat. Ditch the salt shaker! and check the labels. You'll notice the difference. It's amazing how fast your taste receptors adjust to less salt, so stick with it.

I absolutely notice water retention when I consume too much sodium on a certain day, and drinking lot s of water helps me too. I think the best way to avoid too much sodium it to avoid processed foods. Frozen meals, canned soups, chips, etc. all contain way to much I think. Try to make your meals fresh, eat more fruits, veggies, and lower sodium foods.
