I have noticed a few here who fast a certain period of time each day and am wondering the benefits in terms of weight maintenance and how it works if you exercise a lot, ie, is it harmful to go and workout hard while in the fasting phase?
Is it better for weight maintenance, for example, than eating a main meal and snacks through the day ?

It works well. There isn't much magic to it, you simply reduce you feeding time to 6-8 hours per day and take in NO calories the remainder. You literally do no have to change anything, just consume the same amount of food you normally would, just in a smaller window.
The leangains site that was previously posted is the best source of information.0 -
Also try marksdailyapple.com. He just did a 5 part series on his blog about IF....works for me!0

Is it better? Subjective. Do you like eating all your calories for the day in 1-2 meals within a specific time window every day? Or do you like eating several meals spread out through the day? If you prefer the former, then give IF a try. If you prefer the latter, it probably isn't for you. It's not a magic bullet, it's just a different option.
Personally, I go by the Eat-Stop-Eat method of IF, rather than leangains. So, instead of eating in a specific time window every day, I eat normal, maintenance calories 5 days a week, and then 1-2 days a week I just skip breakfast and lunch, and just eat my normal dinner.0 -

TS I was thinking about doing this since I just read Brads book.
I tried a full 24hour and didnt have any issues with it.
Do you find its easier to cut fat this way while keeping strength up in the gym?0 -

I do. I personally never train on fasting days, maybe some cardio, but I generally schedule my fasting days around my workout schedule (best part about the concept is as long as the fasting days aren't consecutive, you can change them up at will,) and I feel a huge difference in training, and also recovery, with the fact that I'm eating full maintenance calories on days I train, compared back to when I ate a moderate calorie deficit every day. What I also like about, if I want to take a break and eat at maintenance, I can just add breakfast and lunch back to my fasting days, no need to try and refigure calories or rework macros or any other work to sort out maintenance from cutting.0 -
There is also an IF group here as well.. Maybe join that, plenty of info in there0

Hmm, from looking through the premise on the leangains site, it looks a bit too detailed for me, as I am not strength training or anything like that at this point in time. I do a lot of cycling and that is about it, so not sure it would be suitable for that sort of regime. However, the idea of skipping lunch and breakfast a few times a week sounds easily doable for me. I am just seeking a way to maintain my weight and regulate my eating habits a little better, having had issues with EDs for a lot of my life. I don't think I would deal well with an 8 hour window to eat, however, as I dislike the feeling of being bloated and stuffed, and eating that amount in 8 hours would pretty much have that effect on me, I imagine.0
