so I am going to do the live below the line challenge to raise money and awareness for those living in extreme poverty. Anyway we need to live off 2 dollars a day or 10 dollars for the working week. I have worked out what I will buy and how much I day I will be able to eat and it works out as about 600-800 calories a day (although the lower end is more common) .

As I do not drive I walk my son to and from school which burns about 400 calories a day.

Soooo 5 days of this is going to do what to me and is it too short term to have much of a serious effect on my body?

I seriously hope I don't get many people yelling at me without reading this post and only reading the title!

its too short term to have a major effect on you but try to eat a lot of veggies and take a good multivitamin etc. Keep hydrated, tea is really good water with lemon etc. Good luck

What kind of charity would ask you to starve for five days? That's odd. Why don't they just ask you to donate five days of food for someone.

Yeah it's too short to do any real damage - you might feel tired and cranky, but remember why your doing this and that should help!

Its a great cause, and a challenge I thought about doing last year. Its very popular at Uni. And to cmriverside - its about awareness and fundraising (by sponsorship among other ways) - www.livebelowtheline.com - dont be so niaive!

It won't have much of an impact at all, it's only a few days - similar to the calorie reduction you might have if ill or travelling about the world. As your usual calorie intake is higher, you'll feel it a bit especially towards the end - just drink lots of water. Best of luck with it.

I could get more calories in if I ate more rice and pasta ect and not as much fruit and veg but the idea of eating nothing but pasta, rice and noodles turns my stomach more than eating fewer calories but having fresh foods in there. I probably should just go the pasta and rice way.

  • What a great way to raise awareness of how much those in poverty struggle to feed themselves, major props to you.

I don't think 5 days should have much difference. Make sure you drink a lot of water, of course. But 5 days at very low calorie won't send you careening into so-called starvation mode.

All the best! Good luck to you, I think that's awesome.
