I hate the fact that you make women feel like we need to achieve some kind of level to be beautiful or attractive.
You use Photoshop as well as unhealthy models to make us strive for something that is unrealistic and dangerous. Most of us secretly know this, but still try to use these pictures in magazines and models on TV as guides for how we should look. We use plastic surgery, fad diets, and clothing 'tools' to measure up.
You have put one too many girls in hospitals, and even under the grave but still have people eating out of your hand. Just stop.
Sincerely,
One Frustrated Woman

It really is scary, what the mainstream messages are doing to our girls. Trying to achieve the impossible.0

I agree. Our society has brainwashed us so thoroughly that we think artificial looks natural.0

You make a good point here. Often what we are shown as "beautiful" is in actuality "Anorexic" ... Same way on the male end... Looking at the photos of men in magazines or on the internet with 2% or less body fat and no place for their blood vessels but to pop half out there skin is not right either. Balance in all things.0

I would just like to point out that the company that made this commercial http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hibyAJOSW8U (dove) also makes this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I9tWZB7OUSU (axe). It's all about the money. Sad...0

I was just looking this up But how does one even go about approaching this issue? I Think we are all to a certain extent brain washed by the media. For me the scariest part is knowing that theres a good chance that my opinions are not truely my own and since we are constanly surrounded by the media it is hard to figure out what i/we truely think is beautiful I hate thinking that somewhere in me im not doing all this for me at all0

Kassie, we have been brainwashed whether we like it or not. It's standing together and saying no more that will end this - I don't want to have a daughter that has to fight the aneroxia troubles her mother did.0 -
but magazines and television are there to advertise stuff to sell products. they are supposed to represent the ideal. i mean i never knew anyone who was happy to clean their floors like in pledge commercials.
i never understood why people, especially girls, look to fake photo shoots to help develop their self esteem and ego. is that kinda what parents are for? maybe it's because i'm a non white american but i never got upset that cosmo, glamour, shape etc werent telling me that *i* was beautiful. my mom, dad, aunts, etc were the ones telling me that.0
