Hi,

After not losing much recently, I have decided to shake it up a bit. I've worked out that my BMR is 1391 and my TDEE less 20% is 1485. I am going to aim to eat 1485 cals a day and only eat back my exercise cals if it takes me below my BMR. I would really like your opinions on this so that I know that i am doing the right thing going forward.

Thanks in advance everyone!!

FYI - ive lost 9lb and would like to lose 12 more x

My age is 23 and I am 5'5". I currently weigh 159lb doing an office job so am not very active most of the time. My body fat % was around 28 when I used a calculator and I try to work out 3/4 times per week. On average, I will burn 400 cals per session unles it's a class at the gym when I might burn a bit more.

    BMR 1588
    TDEE 2183

Lean mass appx 124lbs this is ideal for your height so anything you can do to maintain should take priority.
Drop all cardio and take up lifting heavy only 3 times a week for about 200cals burned each session.
Check out Stronglifts 5x5 and lift with the boys for a while.
    Youll love it!

Perfect weight is around 132lbs. If you maintain lean mass your perfect weight at around 15% body fat will put you at 140lbs.

    Set MFP to 1746Daily.
Protein and fats should be around 30% each for optimal fat loss.

I have calculated workouts into this number so dont worry about eating back any calories.
Try to log them in as 1cal burned each session to keep your umbers looking right in the diary.

PM me if you have any questions.

Please allow up to a month for the body to adjust to the new intake.
Measure fat only and stay away from the scale.
Muscle glycogen and water weight for repairing damaged tissue will rise while body fat drops so the scale will be deceiving!

Also, If you like, feel free to eat up to 200 calories extra in starchy carbs on lifting days.
This will help maintain lean mass and may even give better definition while cutting calories.

If you must do cardio, only do 15-20 mins of HIIT cardio to maintain lean mass and reduce stress on the central nervous system.

I used the calculator but it seems way too high to other numbers I've gotten.

    Stats:
    Age: 22
    Height: 5'8.25" (68.25 inches)
    Weight: 219.6 lbs
    Body fat %: 39.4% :grumble:
Generally very active (workout 6 days a week for 45-50 minutes)
Lately I've been burning 600 cals in a workout.

One place said my TDEE was 2011 and BMR 1676. This calculator is saying TDEE is 4475 and BMR is 1959. Doesn't seem right...

Are you sure you are Very Active - does your day job involve you being on your feet all day?

For the most part. I work as a direct care aid in a group home but each shift varies. Afternoons are busy but midnights are very active.

Even when I drop the activity level to seated with movement, my BMR is still 1969, TDEE 3839.
