GM, everyone. I've been doing Insanity for 3 wks and I added Jillian's 30DS to the mix. Since Jan, I've lost 20pds and a bunch of inches(prior to Insanity and Jillian). My frd and me have been meeting at the park and walking at least 4miles up to 8-9 miles a day, few times a week. My feet have been on fire! So much pain that I haven't been walking or exercising because I'm trying to give my feet a break. The pain is in my heels and the side of my feet (by the big toe area) and the pain shoots up my shins sometimes. I'm getting so discourage because I'm really enjoying working out (say waaat!!!! did I really say that ....lol  ) I know that my shoes are old because I don't normally wear sneakers. I'm a heels kinda gurl. I went to the New Balance store and told the sales girl my concerns and she recommended NB cross trainers 813's they felt like I was walking on clouds inside the store but I'm not sure if they will hold up for my long distance walks. Some one recommended Asics. I bought a pair of those too (don't remember the style of them) and although they felt nice against my arches I'm not real impressed but was told that these shoes are one of the best. Please help me. I haven't worked out in over a week and I'm getting discourage. I don't run/jog. I walk briskly and need good walking shoes. :frown:

I went to the NB store and they scanned my feet and recommended shoes - that's totally the way to go! I got mine for running and have had zero problems and they'll hold up really well, too.

Thank you. I went to the NB store and she recommended cross trainers. They felt great on my foot but when I went home to "test drive" them. Theyre too loose and not enough support for what I'm doing. Esp doing Insanity. SO I have to return them. I've tried them out for 10min and theyre a no go for me :grumble: :ohwell:

Brand doesn't matter as much as making sure you are in a shoe that is correct for your gait, that fits properly and is comfortable. I suggest going to your local running store and being fit by a professional. They will watch the way you walk in bare feet to determine what type (not brand!) of shoe is right for you and then give you several brands to choose from.

ETA: specific to a walking/running shoe. The best shoe for walking/running may not be the best for other cross-training activities.

Best thing I ever did was stop wearing shoes with a lot of cushioning. It sucked a little on the soft tissue/ankles at first, but now I'm MUCH better off.

wearing new balance minimus running shoes for running, and minimus cross trainers for everything else... boxing, kickboxing, weight training, etc...

I went to a running store and told them what my problem was with my feet and what I do for exercise. They recommended a pair of shoes that has made all the difference... no more pain! You may need to take your shoes back and explain to them what you were doing and how they did not work. You may need a different type of shoe. But don't give up. Hang in there!

Check your socks, too. Cotton socks can cause real discomfort for me.
