Crystal Light ...addict

Hi
I drink alot of Crystal Light and the Target low cal mixer as well. Is this worse than diet soda?? Am I doing any harm on my "lifestyle" change.

Any feedback would be great. I do drink alot of water as well.

  • I was the same way until I read a bunch of articles about artificial sweetners. Apparently, they are really horrible for losing weight. The only reason diet soda is worse, is because it has a lot of sodium and caffeine which can in turn dehydrate you. Studies have proven that artificial sweetners may actually make you gain weight. Also, they are REALLY bad for you over all. You may want to rethink your drink.

    Try googling it
Here's an article I read that really made me think

  • i've heard bad things about artificial sweeteners also, im not sure if there has been any studies that actually prove the sweeteners are bad or if its just hearsay. i choose to avoid them when i can. Im a big fan of water so im lucky in that i dont need flavor in my water. You could try lemon water, cucumber water, i've seen people put mint in there water if u need some flavoring and u choose to stay away from sweeteners
  • Yes, Perdue University and Duke University have both done studies with splenda. It increases your appetite and your cravings for carbs and sugar. I have felt its effects first hand. After I quit using splenda in everything, some of my daily cravings subsided and I did drop a few lbs.

I've not heard good things about the artificial sweeteners, but I can relate. I hate the taste of plain water.

I've found that steeping a few slices of fruit in a pitcher of water really helps the taste so that I can enjoy it. I never go anywhere without a wide mouth Nalgene bottle with a slice of lime in it.

Ohhh...I was afraid that was the answer!! I will go back to good ole' water.

    Thanks everyone!!!!
  • I love crystal light, but I'm trying to cut back on artificial sweeteners. I would try the Pure version they make. It's made with sugar and stevia instead. I actually like the taste better.

I usually drink 1 packet a day and the rest is straight water. I drink around a gallon of water s day. I wonder is just the 1 packet is just as bad :drinker:  Its the only sweet drink I have. I used to drink snapple diet half and half and once I stopped I started losing weight.....

my grocer carries dehydrated lime & lemon juice. i keep a couple packets in my purse for a little flavor on the go. it's a powder like the crystal light, but it's just the juice. i think there are some with additives, so watch your labels.

personally, i also use the mio once or twice a day. it's my one "thing". i know it's terrible for me. but, it's not cigarettes or alcohol. i get in my exercise and i'm eating right. i haven't noticed an increase in carb cravings. in fact, for me, i think it helps because i know that is my "sweet" for the day.

This study was only conducted with saccharin, not nutrasweet, or splenda. Also, it doesn't mention anything about natural sweetener alternatives like Stevia extract.
I like to use the Walmart brand drink mixes, myself. I use 1 full packet (2 servings) per 44oz of water. Considering that I drink at least 88 oz (= 11 glasses)during my work day, plus another 3-5 glasses of plain water at home, I'm not too concerned.
As to that study, MY boss put a bite sized Snickers sitting on my desk 3 hours ago and I have no desire to eat it. I may just leave it there to see how long it stays.

I love Crystal Light Pure. I drink at least two bottles with it in daily. It doesn 't increase my desire for carbs nor sugar.
  • In the past I found myself ODing on CL, but recently I found a great alternative - Natrual Lemon - Raspberry Lemonaide sweetened with Stevia! Can't get more natural than that - and 0 calories, so it's not killing my waisteline!

I drank crystal light all throughout my weight loss journey. Kept me from going crazy as I have never desired to drink plain water all the time.
  • I'm addicted to it too (as well as diet soda). Is it healthy? Definitely not. Has it affected my weight? No.
