I have hypothyroidism. I'm on 175 mcg Synthroid. I feel great! Just make sure the doctor monitors your blood work and you're on the right dosage of whatever thyroid replacement they give you.0

I have it too. I just found out about a month ago. I went to a holistic doctor after I found out and was put on an herbal supplement. (I kind of hate medication and thought this would be a better option). I get the results back soon as to whether or not it is helping. I can say that I think it is though because I have a ton of energy back and I feel 1000 times better since I was put on it. I haven't lost weight yet (I am pretty new to this thing only been doing it about 4.5 weeks), but I have been working out and eating right and have see a little bit of a difference in the way my clothes fit (yay!). My body generally doesn't show any weight loss for 6 weeks... why I have no idea.
You WILL be able to lose weight, it might just be a little harder than it would be for someone without hypothyroid. No worries. Just know that it might take a little longer. Either way though, its worth it in the end. And who knows, sometimes losing weight cures ailments so it might be what your thyroid needs to get back to normal.
Feel free to friend me and on those exhausting, seemingly hopeless days, we can support each other!0 -
I have had hypothyroidism for about 15 years. I started on synthroid. I never felt normal. An endocrinologist said there are some people who don't do well on synthroid alone, so he prescribed cytomel. It helped some, but my labs were always erratic and I had to adjust meds constantly. I have been on armour thyroid for over five years and it works so much better for me. I have had steady labs ever since I got on the right dose for me.
Now the weight loss...that's only just beginning because I'm actually trying. I've lost some ever since joining MFP and burning more calories than I consume. I want to lose about 20 pounds for my initial goal. That will put me near my weight pre-hypothyroidism. You can do it, just make sure your meds get adjusted as needed. If the synthroid isn't cutting it, don't be afraid to ask for something else. Learn as much as you can about the labs and meds.

Thanks guys. I know I probably sound like a big baby...lol. I Just feel so stuck and hate it. I Lost the first 50 and it is such a hard struggle as it is staying at the 50 lost. I just started the meds...my doctor just upped me to 50mcg yesterday because I told her that the 25 was not doing anything to make me feel better. Do you guys see a normal doctor or do you go to an Endocrinologist? I was wondering what doctors others see with it. My husband wants me to go see a specialist to make sure I am being taken care of properly...but also because it was an er doctor to tell me I had it, when my doctor pretty much ignored the symptoms. Should I see a specialist? I am already doctor shopping for my primary...lol.0

I've been taking Thyroid Essentials supplement which seems to be helping me. I'm against medication or surgery. I'm also just starting on my weight loss journey, but knowing that my thyroid was part of the issue has made it easier for me to focus on my health and not beat myself up about being fat.0
