Lose / Loose

Okay, I'm about to go all grammar nazi, but seriously people, I'm amazed at how often Loose is used in place of Lose on this site.

Loose = the way your clothes are going to be once you Lose all the extra weight (SEE WHAT I DID THERE?)

That's one of my main grammar pet peeves. Another one is woman/women. I'm pretty sure just about everyone on my friends list on Facebook thinks women is singular because I see it at least once a day on my news feed.

HA! I laugh every time I see that! Accept and except are frequently messed up. Recently, on a doctor's sign, it read: Excepting new patients
  • I can usually ignore most of the grammar issues I see every day, but the sheer amount that people misuse 'loose' on this site just gets to me

Haven't seen someone point this out in a while.

You didn't go to that doctor did you? I have little faith in his skills if he doesn't understand the English language

It doesn't bother me for the most part, but I enjoy reading the comments. As an aside, in the sentence above, the correct phrase is "sheer number of people" and not "sheer amount."

Oh my goodness! That would drive me crazy too using "women" instead of "woman" when they are referring to just one person in a sentence .

Let's make this a 12 page thread about how much we're bothered by bad grammar.

lol my grammar is not the best at times especially if auto correct is plotting against me :grumble: but the misuse of 'loose' and 'lose' is mindbogglingly

I'm all for good Grammar, but I don't understand why people feel the need to create a Thread to complain about it. Unless people are just THAT bored.

and then there are those that figure it's pretty sad that so many people have so little grasp of the English language.

Another one -- the "your" vs. "you're" distinction that seems to baffle so many folks these days.

My son (18) and I always feel the need to complain about this type of thing too! I can't believe that people do not know the difference between the two, especially since it's so frequently used on diet sites! Another pet hate of mine is the word definitely. This has to be the most common misspelt word ever, everywhere!
