Hi All
Just finished a body pump class which is conditioning with weights (chest presses, clean and presses, triceps and bicep work etc) along with squats, lunges and abs
Anyone have any idea how I should log it? Definitely worked up a sweat! Im 5'4", 147lbs if that helps!
Thanks in advance

Make your own exercise up (You can create your own). I am EXACTLY the same stats as you and burn 400 - 450 cals per class with my HRM. Well Done.
What is your goal BTW?0 -
It really depends on how hard you push yourself and how hard you work. I'm 5'10 / 154 lbs and used to lift really heavy weights in body pump. I burned between 300 and 450 cals according to my heart rate monitor. That's quite low for the hard work, but remember you're building muscle which will help boost your metabolism and continue to burn calories for longer than cardio.
If you want exact numbers, you should get a HRM!
Hope this helps.0 -
I'm 5'8, 146lbs and I have been body pump twice (with a HRM)
First session: 519 cals.
2nd session: 534 cals.
I am definitely working up a sweat too!0 -
I usually just log it as weight lifting ( the one under cardio though) It might burn more then that ( 170 or so for me a 5 '3" 115 lb person) because there is a it of cardio in it but its better to be a little under then over in calorie estimation.0

Great! Thanks all!
I have got a HRM but it is so temperamental and will drop below 80 bpm often - leading to annoying beeping! Need to save for a better one
My goal currently is to get down to 135lbs and see how I feel when I get there - trying to get it done in bite size chunks0 -

I would recommend Polar FT4, I love mine, and have seen a few others on here mention that brand too0 -
Good for you. I am exactly the same in terms of goal, if you wanted to friend me for support.0

I totally LOVE Bodypump! I have been taking it for two months now and it has helped me lose inches and tone up! I also take other les mills classes like BodyCombat, CXworks and Bodyattack. They are the best!
It says on the flyer for Bodypump that it can burn up to 560 calories. So I always log 350 just to be safe, even though I know I am burning more, I lift the heaviest possible for me. But it's best to estimate under than over, like the other poster said.0 -
I love Body Combat and attack! Great workouts!!! Also just developing a love for spinning!
Ive heard good things about the FT4 - think that will be the best bet0 -

Can you add me? For some reason it won't let me find you0 -
Body Pump class?
A study published in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research looked at the calorie-burning effects of a 50-minute Body Pump workout.
Subjects burned, on average, 265 calories during the workout. The men burned a little more calories (315) compared to the women (214). On average, the subjects burned 5.3 calories per minute.
A second trial, this time commissioned (i.e. paid for) by the Les Mills Group (the people who invented Body Pump), compared a Body Pump session lasting 57 minutes with 60 minutes of continuous cycling.
The group (10 men and women) burned an average of 411 calories during the Body Pump session, and 483 and 339 when separated into men and women.
This comes to 7 calories per minute for the group, and 8 and 6 calories per minute for the men and women, respectively.
Taking the results from both studies, women can expect to burn anywhere between 5-6 calories per minute during a typical Body Pump class. Men will burn somewhere between 6 and 8 calories per minute.0 -
I'm going to my third class tonight and wondered also. I do Zumba the other 4 days and can easily figure the calories burned in there.0

I burn between 250 and 300 per session0

I record it as cardio because as far as I can tell there really isn't any other way to log that kind of class. I love that class I can burn close to 700 some days its a great fat burner!!!!!!0

I put 300-350 depending on how much I sweat/exert. I actually logged 400 on Wednesday because the new release is AWESOME and very tough and full of cardio! I love the new release!0
