Rest day advice?

I'm fairly injury-prone, and I'm getting back into running after being out for way too long. On my current schedule, I'm running five days a week. I do yoga just about every day, but I'd like to come up with something else that I can do on my rest days that will support my training but not be too hard on my legs.

Any recommendations? I don't currently have access to a gym or a pool, but I could, if necessary.

If you're fairly injury prone, why are you training so hard? Just wondering.

Yoga is an awesome compliment to a running routine. You may want to look into doing some weight training as well.

Rest days should be days of rest. I do yoga on my rest days, but that's it. Give your body time to heal before doing something else! Rest is as important as the training.
  • Bicycle Riding.

The big name retail stores sell decent bikes for a beginnger in the $100 (or less) range. No need to buy a bike that has more than 7 or 8 gears to start out.

Twice a week, I head to our local bike trails (we are very forunate to have over 30 paved miles of bike trails in our area) and go at least 12 miles. In about an hours time fram, I can burn over 500 calories.

To make it more comfortable on your feet and knees, make sure your seat is high enough. A common mistake for most people.

On my rest days i do yoga or strength training which is a must for runners or you could even just go for a walk, however as you are accident prone i would be inclined to rest from which your muscles will love you. if you over train your not going to be at your best and all that hard work your putting in will be for nothing

I'm training smarter than I used to, and the yoga really helps, so I don't think five days a week is too much. I'm not even at 20 miles per week yet.

And yeah, yoga has been amazing!

Thanks for the advice! I love walking and I do it whenever I can, but it's not always easy to find the time for long walks.
