Going to the gym really early

Like others have said, you really do need to eat before the gym. Not eating for 24 hours isn't healthy anyway but then going to the gym at the end of that is even worse, so ignore that advice!
Evidence that not eating for 24 hours isn't healthy, please?
It's called common sense. Your body needs fuel to run. Food is fuel. Food gives us energy. It's like driving a car with no gas and wondering why it won't go.

I get up at 4:30, commute into Toronto and hit the gym from 5:45 to 6:45. I don't eat a thing until I get to work at 7:00am.
I only have water until after my workout. Food that early is just not happening. Even on weekends, I can't eat as soon as I get out of bed.0 -

Your fat stores are used for fuel as well as food. That's what your body uses once it stops using food for fuel and that's how you lose weight. Not eating for 24 hours will not make you starve, your body still uses food that it ate the day before for fuel. Then it starts using fat stores for energy. That's the brilliant thing about the body, it was DESIGNED to last without food.

The link you sent me describes what would happen if you stopped eating for a long period of time - eg. LONGER than 24 hours. You will not start starving after 24 hours.
And just because something is believed and accepted by the general populace doesn't make it true.0 -
take a protein shake and drink it during. problem solved.0

The problem with your logic is that when your body doesn't have the proper food stores to use as energy to fuel your workouts, it will use muscle FIRST for energy. Only AFTER a large portion of your muscle is depleted will it attack fat storage. When trying to lose weight muscle is your friend....the more muscle you have the more calories you will burn, even in a rested state.0 -
If I go to the gym before 7 AM, I typically do not eat.0
-
I usually just take a coffee with protein with me to the gym and drink that while I'm working out. If I eat anything before makes me feel pukey.0
-
I just eat a small bowl of cereal, wait 15 minutes then go!0

Only in prolonged fasting does protein catabolism become an issue. This happens when stored liver glycogen becomes depleted. In order to maintain blood glucose, conversion of amino acids into glucose must occur (DNG: de novo glucogenesis). This happens gradually and if amino acids are not available from food, protein must be taken from bodily stores such as muscle. Cahill looked at the contribution of amino acids to DNG after a 100 gram glucose load. He found that amino acids from muscle contributed 50% to glucose maintenance after 16 hours and almost 100% after 28 hours (when stored liver glycogen was fully depleted). Obviously, for someone who eats a high protein meal before fasting, this is a moot point as you will have plenty of aminos available from food during the fast.
