Bladder problems

I've been umming and ahhing about whether to start this thread for days but finally decided to today.
Last Wednesday I was diagnosed with painful bladder syndrome. It is also commonly known as interstitial cystitis. I was told to cut out caffeine, Citrus fruit, fizzy drinks, alcohol and tomatoes. If this does not improve the condition then I will have to go on medication.
I was hoping to find others who have the same condition to offer/receive any support really. I am finding it so difficult having to make these changes and I feel like I am the only one. People think it's funny how often I go to the loo but don't realise the half of it. It would be really nice to connect with others.

I was diagnosed in 1995. * fist bump*
Sucks a lot. There were years and years in between then and now with no symptoms (even when I ate tomatoes, coffee and chocolate!). It comes and goes. I find that drinking a TON of water helps a lot. I mean that, I drink a couple of litres upon waking every day, and I keep a giant cup of water with me at all times. And I gave up carbonated beverages, that helped a bit.
Feel free to message me if you need to chat about it, I know it is embarrassing!0 -
I also have IC and yes it sucks a lot. However I do have times of remission and I am so thankful for them. There is a great website IC Network with lots of valuable info. I hope your urologist is very understanding and helpful if not find one. I really love my dr because she truly wants me better. I just started taking Atarax a couple months ago and I think it is the best thing ever, so don't be scared of meds. I take Elavil 10 mg twice a day and Atarax 25 mg twice a day. Elmiron caused some major stomach problems so I stopped it. Good luck to you and just remember to take it day by day. Try not to let it overwhelm you everyday.0
