Gym time and exercise time is egoist?

My opinion is that it is egoist but I refuse to feel bad about it.

Yes, it's absolutely selfish but that's essential! Anyone else who'd otherwise be sharing your time gets to benefit from its effects on your health, attitude and well-spent time apart.

My boyfriend gets pissy about it, but I refuse to feel bad about it, I feel better than I ever have and I'm never going back!

Partly why I don't bother with the gym.

    BUT

We do garden together, walk together, hopefully get bicycling together, swim together... doesn't have to be "solo" time, it's a great time to spend with others and maybe push each other that little bit harder when "Exercise time" is done WITH your partner or friends / family.

We all benefit from the gardens produce, it's worth the time and as we add more plant it and forget it things like Rhubarb and apparently I picked the right strawberry bushes last year (showing signs of life already this year)... we get more time to be a unit, we can the products together, we bake together...

Totally no need for it to be solo "gym" time.

Since it is in my view, more fun to spend time with some one who is confident, healthy, fit, and pleasing to the eye. I think making the time to engineer that person is not only NOT Egoistic but quite the opposite is time devoted in a community interest, to make yourself the person mentioned above. IT is truly a service done for all you know that also serves your needs. Doesn't get much better than that, except that if you have someone to share the time with so much the better.

If I don't make it a priority to make myself even more awesome (like it's possible), then who else is gonna do it?

ETA: hmrjmr, congrats on your progress!!! You're almost at that C-note...fantastic!

@CoryIda, not dismissing your AMAZING loss, but hitting those triple digits is a big milestone. You understand.

Absolutely - but I do not make any apologies for it...... my friends now know that during the week if they want to catch up with me it has to be after 8:30 pm - or Thursday nights - which is my rest day....

It only took 18 months for us to get to this point - but it works (well for me anyways ;-)) I get to get my burns in - and still have a "healthy" social life.

The only exception might be a very special person's birthday - but then the few friends that fall into this category are actually quite good arranging things around my schedule - yes it is all about me ;-)

I think what would be selfish is other people not allowing you some time to yourself to go to the gym..

We all need and deserve that.

That said, it is possible to prioritise exercise at the expense of your friends and family and that isn't right either. It's all about finding the right balance and supporting each other.

I don't think taking 'me' time (whether it be for exercising, reading, relaxing, etc.) is selfish at all. I think that everybody should take an hour of 'me' time every day. My 'me' time is hiting the treadmill as soon as I get home from work - iPod is on and I ignore the world. My husband and son can survive for an hour without me.

Agreed. The busier you are, the more you need "me" time. It refreshes you, it makes you feel better and you can bring that back to your family and friends.
