We have a zombie run near where I live in October. You wear a flag and people made up like zombies and other monsters run and are stationed at different places along the route. You have to outrun them when they pop up and keep your flag until the end, or you're a zombie too. I've never done it, but I've heard it's a really great race!0

Don't know of any fun ones..But I'm doing the Running For Cover 5k for research of melanoma.0

I'd suggest Active.com or a local runners' group site to find 5Ks near you. There was a pretty cool Bunny Dash race I wanted to do in Chicago that was '80s themed. You got bunny ears and sunglasses as your goodies, and they played rock music from the era while you ran.0

There seems to be lots of fun mud runs around.
I look at Active.com and see several in my area.0 -
There's Warrior Dash, I've got one coming up in a month. Eep! Also I'll be doing the Run For Your Lives in Septemer. Both 5ks with a few obstacles thrown in.0

Depends on where you are and what you consider fun. I did a 5K yesterday {my first and the first year it was hosted} that supported a local school. Different members of my family do different runs that support their favorite charities of causes.0

I'm getting a few of my friends and we are signing up in my area. I hate running, but I'm super excited about this! It's not til August, so I have some time to get in shape!0 -
There's a 5K every Tuesday evening in Colorado Springs... it runs out of an Irish Pub downtown. Naturally, it's much more popular during the summer than the winter, but it's a blast. No fees, just sign in and run. $2.50 beer after the run, and a free dri-fit shirt after 10 runs (even if you never spend a dime in the bar). There are runners of all levels, dogs, kids on bikes, walkers, people in their work (not work out) clothes even. I was intimidated when I first started but it's not intimidating at all. You might check around to see if any running clubs have a similar set up. It's a great way to practice for races too.
Edited: Actually, there are several groups in town that are doing this now, on different nights of the week. This is just the one that's closest to me and on a night that's convenient for me. Just in case there are any other COS residents out there!0 -
check out godirtygirl.com i wanna be a dirty girl!! doing the one in wisconsin!!!0

In PHX & other places (not sure where) there's a 5k run that's call 5k Foam Fest! I'm trying to do it this year and it looks like a blast!0

I always like the ones associated with holidays. I have done a reindeer romp where everyone wore antlers, and st. patrick day one where everyone wore costumes with an Irish wake after it. Look for ones that encourage dressing up.0

I don't know where you're located but there are Hot Chocolate 5Ks and there's one in my area that I think is part of a larger group as well that is called a Firefly run or something and is run at night with everyone wearing light-up stuff.
Turkey Trots are also usually pretty fun and often you get a turkey (or can donate it to a local shelter) at the end of the run.0 -
