Eating and TOM

It never fails, a week before TOM I find myself eating junk food. Why do we crave these things at that time and is there something we are lacking vitamin wise (or anything else) that we can take to curb the cravings?

I'm not sure of the reason, but lookout! Cuz the stupid thing is what we crave is what makes it WORSE. Vicious cycle. (pun intended)0

I have found some very good articles on the very subject. Food cravings and what they mean. The last link on here is very good and I have even book marked it so I can refer back to it when I need to.

reading later... I hate Tom0

I am only 6 weeks in to my complete lifestyle change and using MFP so I have only had one TOM since beginning. On the first day I was SO hungry! I wasn't even really craving anything specific, I just felt like I was starving! I've decided that when TOM comes again I will eat whatever I want that day. I work out for 1 - 1 1/2 hours 5 days a week so one day of indulgence shouldn't do too much damage. Whatever it takes to maintain my sanity during TOM!!! :laugh:0

I hate TOM, too. But I don't really get food cravings. Which is nice. While people I knew craved chocolate during TOM, I never did. Though, I do gain 3-5 lbs when during TOM.

Speaks to the cravings a bit, and a yummy looking (somewhat nutritious) recipe....

PMS Banana Oatmeal Cookies
(see the link for the recipe and nutritional info). I've copy/pasted the relevant info around the recipe below....
"Calcium, magnesium, and vitamin B6 have been found to fight the moodiness that often rides in on the "crimson wave," along with breast tenderness and bloating. Aside from the cramp-busting mineral potassium, bananas contain vitamin B6, as does oatmeal. Peanuts are high in magnesium and add a little protein to these cookies as well as a bit of calcium. Omega-3s ease cramping, so I added some flax meal into the mix. Flax also adds a bit more B6. Nothing related to PMS would be complete without a bit of chocolate, so I added some chocolate chips too.
I halved the sugar content in these cookies, since it is best to avoid simple sugars in the battle with PMS. The banana provides sweetness and lowers the fat content, so the cookies require only one stick of butter rather than two. Enjoy one or two cookies with a glass of milk to get even more calcium. Sure do hope they help stabilize your mood and satisfy your craving for something sweet. "
