I have hit a long plateau, my friends, and I am sick of it - I remember reading a thread earlier where somebody suggested zigzagging calories to "confuse your metabolism" - anyone do this and have any recommendations? How far up one day and how far down the next? Does it even work that way? Just curious - thanks for any and all info!

I have done it in the past when hitting a plateau - I read about it in one of Jillian Micheals books - either Making the Cut: The 30-Day Diet and Fitness Plan for the Strongest, Sexiest You or Winning by losing not sure which one. It helps - i find that most days i dont eat the same number of calories anyway.

I do alternate day fasting, so one one day I eat under 500 cals, and the next day I eat 2200. It works out to about 1350 per day, but if I ate 1350 per day forever I'd never stick with it, I'd be way too deprived. This gives me the benefits of calorie restriction/fasting and doesn't trigger my binge impulses from overly restricting myself, so it's been great for me. And a LOT easier than I thought it would be.

Hi, I use the whole zigzag dieting thing, I usually eat a lot less during the week than I do at weekends, so my calories even out over the week and it means that I can have a treat with my partner and daughter and not feel guilty! You don't feel like you're depriving yourself so much this way and more likely to keep to your diet. I've lost 24 lbs so far and motivation is still high!

Have you tried switching up your workouts? I like zig zag calories, I cycle through 1,300 (low) to 1,800 (high) and it seems to work. Another metabolism booster is to drink green tea in the morning and with meals, adding grapefruit to your diet, and researching other foods that increase your metabolism (i.e. oatmeal, fish, nuts, etc.) Hang in there and don't get discouraged, weight loss is a journey
