So, umm... When do I stop feeling like crap?

I've been on the wagon for a week now. Not a long time, I know. But I've been eating well and running every other day. Mentally, I know I'm doing well. Physically, I feel like a dead dog. I have a headache, I'm constipated, bloated, tired, I have to pee every 20 minutes because of all the water I'm supposed to drink, my legs ache, I'm constantly overheated, and I'm pretty sure my feet are stinky.

I'm still getting by on the mental victories - going grocery shopping and knowing everything I bought would make any nutritionist proud, hitting the asphalt on Saturday morning while all my friends were still in bed... but if I don't start feeling physically better soon, I'm afraid the mental part isn't going to be enough.

Please tell me this is normal and that it will pass!

  • It took me several days to start feeling better. :) I looked at it as my body's way of getting rid of the garbage. I did realize that my headaches were due to either caffeine withdrawl (lasted a few days) or when I wasn't eating enough. Hope you feel better soon!

    I hope it passes soon.

Certainly headaches can come from caffeine and sugar withdrawal, as well as hunger.

Tiredness can also be caused by a change in eating habits if you are feeling hungry and doing more exercise. It should pass in time though.

I guess your body just needs time to adjust - easier said than done though I know! x

It took me a little over a week - but since then I've been better than I was before - more energy, sleeping better, etc.

I love to jog but I find I need a break at least once a week. Also, make sure you're eating enough. Running takes A LOT out of you so make sure you eat. Good luck!

Yogurt every day (if there's no issue with dairy, of course) will take care of the constipation. I love the greek yogurt with the fruit on the bottom. You're running a lot, if you're not eating enough you will feel tired - hope you feel better soon!

What did you set your weekly weight loss goal to on MFP? Since you're very close to goal, you should set your weekly goal to lose 0.5lb per week (if you haven't already done so).

Make sure you are not under eating and eat more protein.

Making sure you add lots of veggees into your menu also helps with the constipation. With all the energy you should soon be getting an energy kick.

It IS normal and will pass. Changing the way you eat can and will cause gas, headaches and constipation. I was a mess for the first two weeks. I think it was my body's way of detoxing itself. It does get better. Stick with it and don't give up. Hugs!

Thanks everyone! I think I'm eating enough - I've only got my goal set to 1/2 lb per week and I'm trying to eat most of my exercise calories back. I think it's the adjustment from carb city to lots of fruits and veggies that has me all discombobulated. I knew I'd be sore, but I didn't expect to feel so.. yuck!

I'm glad to know this will pass sooner rather than later!

Maybe go a bit slower on the exercise and ease into it more? When you cut back on calories I don't think that is the best time to jump into exercise feet first. I think one foot at a time might help you get used to both without the crappy side affects.

I agree. You might just need to take one change at a time.
