P90X advice

I'm a 5'10" guy medium frame who put on 40# (160# to 200#) in the last 4 yrs. I decided I need to get in shape so I am going to give P90X a try. I have not been physically active the last year or so. I used to be pretty active before then (tennis, volleyball, hiking). Any advice from people out here who have attempted/finished it
(1) Should I follow the nutrition/supplements as per P90X?. I don't like using artificial/synthetic stuff like whey protein, creatine etc and would rather stick with natural foods. Will this be a problem in getting results if I had my own meal plan?.
(2) Will I be able to stick with the routines given that I am very out of shape at the moment? Should I return it and try something else?.
(3) Its hard to believe some of the transformations in 3 months. Is that all hard work or the effect of some of the supplements prescribed?.

Please help/advice. I am on the edge about what to do but am determined to do whatever it takes to get back to shape.

Cheers!

  • I started P90X, 100+ pounds overweight, and 6 months post back surgery, and am now 2 weeks shy of finishing it. I started light with my weights until I knew what my body could handle. One thing that helped me was to log each move with how many reps I did and the weights I used. It gave me a goal to look forward to doing it again by increasing my reps and/or weights! I didn't follow the nutrition guide, but you'll want to make sure you're getting enough calories in a day as this is an intense program. There were a few weeks that I felt I couldn't get enough to eat because my metabolism was in overdrive! Clean eating should get you results. I didn't get "ripped" in 90 days, but I sure as heck got a lot stronger, lost inches, and went down 3 pant sizes, even though I still modify some of the moves. I'll be back for another round, and I think I'll be a P90X lifer as I love it so much! You got this :)
  • 3 pant sizes in 3 months. Those are amazing results Thanks for the tips. I'll make sure I eat enough clean healthy food and give it all I have got. I think I will attempt it afterall :).
