Lapbands......

Options
Just wondering if there is anyone here with a lapband in.

As a last resort, I had one put in Oct 09 lost 27.5kg in 6 months. I had tried every diet but nothing could get my metabolism moving and my weight didnt move. I was quite fit did pt sessions but my weight wouldnt move so I went down the surgery road. Best thing I ever did. I fell pregnant and miscarried after having lost 27.5kgs and struggled to lose much more before falling pregnant the next month with my son.

I only put on 10 in pregnancy but have struggled to lose it. I still have 5 to go and he is 14 months. I have finally had some fluid put back in but its taking me a really long time to adjust to eating to suit the band again.

Even todays lunch Ive struggled with was a very small helping but Im just full. I saw the dietician today and the amount of calories Im eating is fine but I need to eat breakfast.

Does anyone else struggle with eating comfortably or any other issues with the band?

Ive never had that particular surgery (or any surgery for that matter) but, I had the same problem with not being hungry and needing to eat breakfast....for some reason, I'm not hungry in the mornings at all. I've actully found that protein shakes do the trick for me. I have one of those in the morning insted of eating to "jump start" my metabolism and give myself something for the day. Maybe looking into one of those could solve your problem? Hope this helps and good luck!!!

Yeah on the days work I have Optifast just cause once Im in the classroom I cant just stop and eat when I want lol I have to wait til the kids do.

Its a mental thing I need to overcome and make myself eat breakfast. I never did even as a teenager but now its affecting me.

"Does anyone else struggle with eating comfortably or any other issues with the band?"

As long as The Band is treating you well, you should be fine. I know a bunch of people who have had issues with it, but my experience is skewed because I primarily hang out with people who had my surgery - so most of the 'Banders' I know would be people who had issues and had a revision done. If you're wondering what issues people *can* have, I can point them this way.

Otherwise, there are a couple of sites you might check out - one is www.obesityhelp.com. There is a Lap-Band board where you could ask for food & dietary suggestions. The other is http://www.lapbandtalk.com/ which has a lot of Banders on it, and discusses everything from food & nutrition to where to find a doctor to get a fill.

Ive spoken to my specialist and there are no issues with thre band itself its more me getting used to having fluid in it after having none during pregnancy. So its changing habits back again. No issues with slippage etc thats all been looked into.

I think I just need to get back to where I was after having it put in and I need to do it quick before I fall pregnant again lol

    Any tips?

Well, it's a "Gastric Bypass" trick - but you might try the "Five Day Pouch Test" - Google it. It helps to get you back to the beginning.

    Hi KMGP

    I was banded July 6 06

    I've lost 156 lbs.

I had 4 fills in total... no defill.

My lapband journey has been fairly easy. I only plateaued 2 months in a row. I only get weighed in with my family doctor every month... while I was losing... I still get weighted in every month to stay on track.

When my metabolism stalled my doctor suggested i increase my protein and try and include it in my snacks... I did that and it really made a difference.

    I started with a 54" waist and now have a 33" waist.

If you have any questions please feel free to e-mail me - tomander@bell.net

I also have free long distance and would be happy to talk with you on the phone. I sort of retired so I have lots of free time.

I talk to a lot of bandsters both in Canada and the US.

I also host a monthly coffee group of bandsters.

I find support from other bandsters a great help.

I have done everything! So much money wasted. A thyroid that doesnt want to work. I was put on an extremly high dose of meds for my thyroid and was given the opportunity to participate in a weight managment program. I recieved my lapband . I have lost 70 lbs. While it is a struggle and this is definatly NOT the easy way out I dont regret it for a minute.
