Hello!
I have a lot of weight to lose (around 50lbs) and I'm currently only doing cardio training with minimal amount of strength because I basically don't know what to do when it comes to weights and all that. I was just wondering if anyone had read the book and their thoughts about it. I am really looking to lose weight and tone up at the same so any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks for replying :) I think I may order the book as there's no harm in trying and I've read some reviews that it is good for any person (beginner-intermediate) With me defiantly being a beginner haha

There is a whole group on MFP dedicated to the program. Just search the groups and join. Good luck!

I have quite a few friends that have tried this, and they all love it.

More muscle = more calories burned doing just about anything.

I haven't had the chance to order the book myself. But i lift weights. I was dumb founded at first, but i started program i found on bodybuilding.com. Its free, and provides through instructions about how to do each move properly. Great if you go to the gym, because it includes some work with a lot of common exercise machines.

I have the book. I've read it and I'm currently working through Stage 2. There is a New Rules of Lifting for Women group and they are very helpful and friendly. I joined the group and started reading through the posts before I got my book in the mail. It gave me an idea of what to expect.

    It's great!!!!!

I got really into researching fitness after a few months on this site. Read article after article about the science of getting lean and losing body fat etc. NROL has all the major points I feel I've learned over the last year.

I also really like the diet advice, recipes, and workouts. (6 months of work out material = awesome)

    Also very readable.

    Just. Buy. It.

I have it, have not read it all, but reading sections as they apply to my needs. I love the sample exercises and use them frequently!

Yep - Great book - well written - easy to read - excellent workout programmes - money well spent - provided you actually use it.....

And as others say join the NROL Group on here for support from others doing it,.

I have read it, and I really liked it. I bought it because I was at a standstill with my current routine and strength training knowledge. I'm just starting the first part of the 6 month program they have in there (8 weeks). The workouts are short and totally doable, and alternate between two different exercise routines throughout each section. Just make sure you start at a weight you are comfortable with for each exercise. I had the woman working at the fitness center go through a few of the exercises I was unsure of with me. I'd definitely recommend that (especially if you're fairly new to strength training, like me). For example, the squats in the program are illustrated using a barbell. However, barbells alone without weights already weigh 45 pounds. I was advised to start with dumbbells, since my form and strength is not yet good enough to support the barbell.

What I love though, is that even with just three 30 min workouts a week, you can REALLY feel it.

I've been doing it for about a month and am totally hooked. I, too, recommend it to all my girlfriends. My favorite sentence in the whole book:

"A woman who's willing to work like a galley slave in Spinning class, twist herself into Gordian knots in the yoga studio, and build enough core strength with Pilates to prop up a Skyscraper will walk into the weight room, pick up the pastel-colored Barbie weights, and do the exact opposite of what will give her the results she wants."

Lou Schuler is a poet, I tell ya. Pick up those heavy weights! You'll love the results! 'Nuff said.

I'm doing some strength training now, but I'm interested in reading it based on all the great buzz. I just reserved it at the library. If I really like it/ want to do the program, I'll buy a copy. So, anyone on the fence about buying, it might be worth it to check your local library.
