Never ending?

I am reaching that point in my self-destructive cycle where I decide that this is never going to end. Yes, I have been blessed to lose 28 pounds at this point, but I will never actually be "fit" or "healthy" so why keep putting myself through this? Yes, the weight loss is great, but with 60 more pounds to go, this is just never going to end.
Would really appreciate hearing what others have done to help them over these rough spots.

Way to go on losing 28 pounds! Wow, that shows that you've really been working at it - that's wonderful!
I totally get what you mean when you hit a 'slump' and struggle to keep things moving forward.
Personally, I don't count calories but just write down what I eat for each meal and snacks. I'm not sure what kind of plan you follow - if counting every calorie is feeling overwhelming then perhaps leaning off of that approach and trying something a little more forgiving for a little while. Maybe making I-feel-good-about-this-decision with your meals without completely critiquing every morsel will provide you with some room to feel satisfied that you made a decision you feel good about and can move on.
Forgiveness, patience and PROGRESS not perfection are keys for me. You've got this - just give yourself a little more credit for what you've accomplished and then add a touch of forgiveness and you'll find yourself still moving along0 -
 28 lbs is great! hang in there.
Give your self a treat and don't beat yourself up just keep trying don't go backwards it is so hard to get that back. Change something in your routine. Change your exercise schdule, change what you are eating for this week.
I've been where you are at an it doesn't help to give up it just makes it harder. I am sure you feel better and are in smaller clothes. that is huge no matter what. The say chocolate helps you feel happier. Try some good choices for things that are chocolate.
nestles hot chocolate is only 80 cals, skinny cow makes fudge bars only 100 cals. take a 1 day break or a 1 week break but still eat heathly.
Hang in there you can do this.0 -
Don't give up Mike! Losing a lot of weight can be overwhelming and even depressing.
I know how you feel as I started with 100 pounds to lose. In the beginning I felt it would never end. I figured that if I lost a pound a week for a year I'd lose around 50 pounds and Still be Obese! Not very inspiring, Huh?
Well, ten months down and 60 pounds later, I'm sneaking up on the barrier between obese and overweight, (for my height). I'm hoping to make it by my one year anniversary on Memorial Day. Many times I asked myself is it worth it? and will it never end?
We know the answer has to be yes. If we don't follow through on what we've started, we'll just gain it back and have to start all over again when some health issue gives us the "big wake-up call".

Stick with it and you'll do just fine. There is no "end"... you need to make adjustments that you can live with for the rest of your life. That doesn't mean you can't eat anything you want, you can! You just need to make sure it fits within your overall goals. I spent 7 months eating between 1200 - 1300 calories a day plus exercise... slowly over the last 4 months I've been raising my calories. Currently I'm still loosing, because of metabolism changes and continued exercise, at 3000 cals daily. This still has me in caloric deficit! I'm pretty sure I can survive, lol, off of 3000 cals daily for the rest of my life.
It's a circle, you'll get back around to the top some day, just stick with it! 11.5 months is what it took for me to get here. Now I find I want more improvement! So back to heavy lifting for me & more food! I'm expecting to be around 3250 on rest days and 3750 on lifting days. This is a few months away so we'll see!
It's a marathon not a sprint.
Good luck!!

Sound like you need a pick me up!!
You are doing great!!
Yes! Yes! 28lbs is a great way to start!
My doctor said I was healthy other than my weight. I was really surprised he said this. But then he said let me qualify that. If you don't get some of that weight off, your health is going to go down hill in the next 10 years.
So healthy is a good thing!
We can do this!!!! Keep it up!!! We are trucking along beside you!0 -

Great job on losing 28 pounds!!! It shows that you have been making an effort to live a healthy lifestyle and are probably feeling the benefits of that lifestyle. Maybe you should step away from the scale, and counting calories, and focus on living that healthy lifestyle. Maybe give yourself 2 months to live the healthy lifestyle and at the end of those two months re-evaluate.
Do you have a reward system set up? If not you should find a way to reward yourself. And maybe reward yourself for the lifestyle changes and not the weight loss. You could always reward yourself for both.
Whatever you do, don't give up. You are right that this whole weightloss thing is never ending. Thats because it needs to be a lifestyle change. Once the weight is off you want to be able to keep it off and that requires a total lifestyle change, no matter how long it takes you to make that change. Life is a journey.0 -
Try seeing it as a lifestyle change, rather than 'such and such pounds to lose'. That will just suck all the joy out of your life. Losing weight shouldn't mean you have to stop living and embracing all the other wonderful things to experience and live each day. 28Ibs is great and I am sure you will manage the other 60. It isn't a race, and shouldn't be your entire life focus as that is when it will really start to get you down. Just enjoy the journey, stop focussing on how much more you want to lose, and focus on living life in a healthy and happy way, alongside those you love.0

Congrats on losing 28 lbs.!! That is a great achievement in itself... You somehow have to come to terms that this is a permanent lifestyle change... You are not doing this for a short time then you can go back to your old ways.. We all know where that will lead you, right back where you started.... When I started at 560 lbs. it was impossible to fathom losing 3 lbs. let alone 300 lbs. so I broke everything down to what I could handle and that was taking each day one day at a time. You get up every single day and you do everything you can do to be as successful as you possible can for that day and when you go to bed each night you have no regrets because you did everything you could to stay the course.... And then you get up and do it again tomorrow... This is the rest of our lives... Best of Luck to you......0

Mike, you're doing fantastic and you can achieve your goal.
How long did it take you to loose it?
It's human nature to want something today or tomorrow and sometimes it seems tomorrow is the day after never.
In this case never will happen if you give up so please, please don't.
Keep up the fantastic progress and tomorrow will come for you and give you big rewards for it.0 -

I have been going at this since the start of the year. No, not very long. Guess I need to give myself a bit of credit and come to grips with the life-long nature of this journey0 -
Please feel free to friend me if you like.
You seem like a nice person  who could do with some positive feedback and encouragement.0 -

That's the way to go!!! It's a lifestyle change not a diet. It's creating new habits and breaking old one. And that takes time. Keep it up. The 28lbs in 4 months is great! It's taken me 16 months just to lose 20 lbs. You are doing GREAT!0
