Is housework exercise?

I work my butt off most days with all the housework, surely there should be an option in the exercise diary for that somewhere? :)

LOL somedays, yes for me it is! I have rheumatoid arthritis, somedays even getting out of bed is exercise. I still dont count that tho in my diary, only if i get my exercise clothes on and do something specifically for exercise do i count it.

It's under cleaning and you can pick vigorous or light.
There are days where cleaning my house kicks my butt harder then my workout.
I tend to only count it if I am doing an all day clean, (about once a week).

It depends onb what kind of house work...Are you talking about just general cleaning? Sweep/Mop, Dust, Dishes?? I think cleaning a bath tup, the walls is a small calorie burn.. I always sweat when I do it. But I think moving furniture is a bit of a workout and you also use your muscles......

there is an option in there, but if it's a daily activity just put it into your lifestyle as either active or lighly active instead of your exercise log.

While cleaning is exercise for some, I personally don't log it because I personally don't break a sweat doing it.

There are listings in the database for cleaning, meal prep, and a few others...I don't log those things, because I just consider that a part of everyday life, and consider that a part of my normal calorie burn. I wore my HRM a couple times while doing my everyday activities and saw no difference than if I was sitting on my butt.

    Heck, ya! It's exercise!

But personally I don't log anything but actual exercise I do in my gym. But that's just me. I just count cleaning as an extra bonus!

No. Quit being a sissy and cheating yourself.

No it isnt. If housework and food prep (i know that wasnt mentioned) was exercise hardly anyone would be overweight.

Someone said on here once, that if it's something you'd be doing regardless of trying to lose weight or get fit- it doesn't really count and you're cheating yourself by logging it.

I like to put my earbuds in and dance around the house while cleaning! I try to incorperate some exercise into it. Yes if I go at it for more that 20 minutes straight, and I raise my heartrate I count it.

I feel like it is IF you are working up a sweat. So vaccuuming and mopping, yup yup. Dusting something lightly, probably not. Also, if you just spent like 3 hours moving furniture around to clean, heck ya log that!

I count it as exercise if it is more than what I would normally do. (For instance, I don't mop everyday, so if I mopped vigorously, I might count that). But if it is just light housekeeping, I figure that anything I burn is bonus! I look at my more vigorous days at work in the same way. Some days I'm mostly at my desk, other days I'm moving equipment and on my feet a lot (I'm a music specialist in a school, and some days that includes teaching some dance, some days a lot of conducting, etc, so I just look at each activity and day separately).

I agree with this. Unless you just started cleaning! If it is something you have always done then, no, your body is used to it.

Just like working, I wouldn't log anything that I do on a daily basis.
