I work my butt off most days with all the housework, surely there should be an option in the exercise diary for that somewhere?

There is an option for housework/cleaning. x0

LOL somedays, yes for me it is! I have rheumatoid arthritis, somedays even getting out of bed is exercise. I still dont count that tho in my diary, only if i get my exercise clothes on and do something specifically for exercise do i count it.0

It's under cleaning and you can pick vigorous or light.
There are days where cleaning my house kicks my butt harder then my workout.
I tend to only count it if I am doing an all day clean, (about once a week).0 -
It depends onb what kind of house work...Are you talking about just general cleaning? Sweep/Mop, Dust, Dishes?? I think cleaning a bath tup, the walls is a small calorie burn.. I always sweat when I do it. But I think moving furniture is a bit of a workout and you also use your muscles......0

there is an option in there, but if it's a daily activity just put it into your lifestyle as either active or lighly active instead of your exercise log.
While cleaning is exercise for some, I personally don't log it because I personally don't break a sweat doing it.0 -
Not if you're a woman

There are listings in the database for cleaning, meal prep, and a few others...I don't log those things, because I just consider that a part of everyday life, and consider that a part of my normal calorie burn. I wore my HRM a couple times while doing my everyday activities and saw no difference than if I was sitting on my butt.0
-
Heck, ya! It's exercise!
But personally I don't log anything but actual exercise I do in my gym. But that's just me. I just count cleaning as an extra bonus!0 -

No. Quit being a sissy and cheating yourself.
Have you ever mopped a whole house???0 -
No it isnt. If housework and food prep (i know that wasnt mentioned) was exercise hardly anyone would be overweight.0
-
Someone said on here once, that if it's something you'd be doing regardless of trying to lose weight or get fit- it doesn't really count and you're cheating yourself by logging it.0

Quit being rude.0 -
I like to put my earbuds in and dance around the house while cleaning! I try to incorperate some exercise into it. Yes if I go at it for more that 20 minutes straight, and I raise my heartrate I count it.0
-
omg did he call her a sissy ??? i have 3 kids and a husband that works outside cleaning up after them and running after my 18 month old is not what i would call sissy work just add to it more we move the more we lose0
-
I feel like it is IF you are working up a sweat. So vaccuuming and mopping, yup yup. Dusting something lightly, probably not. Also, if you just spent like 3 hours moving furniture around to clean, heck ya log that!0
-
I sure think it is i work as a professional housekeeper and some days i am sweating and huffing and puffin and i am pretty sure moving is moving I don't think it matters what you call it0

lmao love this response!0 -
I count it as exercise if it is more than what I would normally do. (For instance, I don't mop everyday, so if I mopped vigorously, I might count that). But if it is just light housekeeping, I figure that anything I burn is bonus! I look at my more vigorous days at work in the same way. Some days I'm mostly at my desk, other days I'm moving equipment and on my feet a lot (I'm a music specialist in a school, and some days that includes teaching some dance, some days a lot of conducting, etc, so I just look at each activity and day separately).0

I agree with this. Unless you just started cleaning! If it is something you have always done then, no, your body is used to it.
Just like working, I wouldn't log anything that I do on a daily basis.0 -
I only log actual workouts and when I cycle, which is to work and back some days.
Housework, gardening, sex, shopping etc etc, none of that gets logged, no matter how much I am sweating.0 -
There is & it's under cardio. When you're sweating and continuing to work and clean I would agree that it's a workout. Go for it!0
-
if you are working harder than usual then YES! I log when I spring clean my room as I move all my furniture and usually as I have music on am wiggling the booty as I do it lol
and agree if you are responding to a topic if you dont have something constructive to say.. best say nothing!!0 -
I only log housework when it is including moving furniture, washing walls, taking down..cleaning..and putting up the curtains. More or less the type of all day project type of cleaning. Spring Sprung and the house got a makeover three weeks ago. Normal stuff I count as bonus calories burned.0

Here is the deal...housework IS exercise if it is not counted into your daily goals. I set mine up for lightly active and that includes everything I do in a day. This includes dishes, laundry, cooking dinner, sweeping etc. However, once every week or two I mop the entire house...this is an hour long process since we have many furry friends that live with us...THIS is not part of my daily routine and YES I count it as it is extra. I keep showing a lose on my weight ticker so I guess it works!0

Anybody who thinks housework is never exercise, like the rude guy further up the thread, has clearly never tried to vacuum a really high-piled carpet with a crappy vacuum. It's like pushing a football player around the room repeatedly!0
-
I think it very much depends on what you listed as your activity level for everyday when you signed up. If it's already included as far as how active you are, then no. If say you listed yourself as sedentary, then yes, it would.0

Agree. Why would you want to cheat yourself? Unless I work up a serious sweat, I will not log it. I don't feel like I am doing myself any favors by "giving" myself extra calories to consume.
But I suppose if you are just entering them and not eating them...that would work, but I don't see the point of that.0 -
I use a BodyMedia monitor that tracks how many calories I burn. Moderate level housework (vacuuming, washing floors, dusting, picking up) uses about the same level of calorie burn per minute for me as a 3.5 mph walk.0

Honestly, this statement doesn't really make any sense at all. I don't understand what logging these things, for someone who doesn't necessarily normally do them and doesn't have them considered in their settings, has to do with an overall caloric deficit.0
