Ode to carrots. Why don't you fill me up?

Anyone else feel like you could eat carrots all day and still not be full?
I swear, carrots are my favorite snackie food. I eat them about every day,
and always in rather large portions (considering). And it never fails,
10 minutes after I eat them, I'm hungry again. This doesn't happen to
me with anything else. I wonder why carrots don't fill me up? Maybe
I have a tape worm that only likes carrots.

ooh, cabbage would be bad news (for the wife) with me. I mean, I LIKE cabbage, but it doesn't really like me (if you know what I mean).
sad, I just finished my last carrot, and ....true to form, I'm still hungry. DAMN IT!0 -
Y'know, if you eat cabbage a lot (like 3x a week), it will like you a lot better. Kinda the same for beans.
But I do notice that about carrots. Not so much that I'm not filled up, but it makes me feel like I have a 3lb rock in my stomach. Weird, huh?0 -
I hear ya on the carrots. I love them, too! I eat them with Ranch dipping sauce.0

If you get some carrot slices and dip them in 1/4 reduced fat sour cream mixed with 1/4 cup salsa (Newman's Own black bean and corn salsa is the best), it makes a yummy snack and a good alternative to ranch dip!0

I had looked up baby carrots on Snopes to learn more about how much carrot is wasted when they are trimmed down, and found out that some of them are treated with chlorine, and most are bred with higher sugar content to taste sweeter. I've been trying to cut back on baby carrots for the above reasons, but darn if they aren't the most convenient and tasty veggie out there!:laugh:0

This *SOUNDS* really wierd, but try it once - it REALLY is good!
Dip your baby carrots or carrot sticks in natural peanut butter, then in a little bit of raisins.... it's WAYY better than using celery. :flowerforyou:
It'll fill ya up. I use about a tablespoon of PB and about 1/4 cup of raisins. It's a great snack!0 -
Raw carrots do that for me, but if I cook them - even just blanche them, they are fine. Dunno why.0

I'm on hiatus from carrots right now because I threw some in the garbage disposal yesterday and it clogged it. I had to get the plunger out and was covered in nasty carrot chunks0

i eat mine with garlic salt on them, but they always make me HUNGRIER than I was before eating them.0

I don't find it so much with carrots, but with raw apples. If I eat an apple my stomach is rumbling within an hour. It really sucks because I work in a research station on an orchard... free apples are just starting to flow! in the fall I usually eat 1 or 2 a day!0

Ever try baking them?? I buy the big bags at Sam's. I put them in the oven about 350 for up to 45 min or however soft you want them. I put a little salt and cooking spray on them. They seem to be more filling and rich tasting. they are good at room temperature!!
I read online somewhere.....not to eat too many carrots a day, some kind of toxic problem. Ever hear of that?? i know it sounds crazy??!!0 -

Carrots contain a lot of beta carotene (which makes them orange), and if you eat a TON of them you can turn orange too! Just like an oompa loompa!0

they have carbs, but they don't have a lot of carbs. 3 oz of carrots has about 7g of carbs, in relation, 1 piece of whole wheat bread has about 20 carbs. Plus the carbs they have are the good kind. I thought someone would have mentioned the sugar factor by now, but carrots are low in sugar too, 3 oz has about 4g of sugar.
By the way, yes, you can have an orange tint from too many carrots, but it would take a rediculous amount over an extended period to do so (somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 to 25 3 oz servings a day for a couple of weeks) I'm not all that worried, besides, it's harmless.0 -

Me too. I like to dip them in pb or yogurt, then they don't leave me starving for more.0
