If you're serious about getting in shape.. no complaining!

If you're in a fitness class and the instructor accidentally makes you do 20 more reps than she initially said to do.... DON'T WHINE! That drove me crazy tonight in my boot camp class.
If these people are truly there to lose weight and get in shape, they would find the opportunity in extra reps vs. complaining and having a negative attitude! And this isn't just tonight.. its night after night that they whine... "suicides? ugh! 5 back and forth?!.... 25 reps?!?! you said 20!"
Have any of you ever experienced negative people at the gym that you wish would just leave instead of trying to ruin your workout?
This was somewhat a rant, so forgive me... but thanks for reading. I feel better knowing most of you understand.

Exercising, whether to lose weight or not isn't FUN for everyone. It's hard, and not everyone likes it but they're there because they know they need to be. Maybe cut them a little slack. I hate suicides too! rofl0

yes ..complaining and excuses are my pet peeves. Do it all the way or don't do it and quit complaining!! :happy:0

Did they still do them?
If so, then cut them some slack. I complain while I do my workouts sometime (like today), but I still work my butt off. I am serious about getting into shape, but that doesn't mean I always enjoy myself.0 -
Yes they did still do them and I get that exercising is not fun for everyone so a little complaining is expected. Ya suicides are brutal but they do a body good!
However, to say those things AND give the instructor dirty looks like they are holding a grudge against her for pushing them hard... that's just inexcusable! I understand a little complaining but when they start calling out the instructor in class and try to guilt her into cutting back the reps- thats just annoying for all of the other people who don't mind pushing themselves that extra bit.0 -
Some people need a common enemy in order to bond. And some people just like to complain.0

Thats a good way to look at it.0 -
I'm surprised they'd ask her to cut the reps when other people might want to do them. If it were me and I didn't want to do it, I'd just not do it on my own but not expect the actual class to change just for me. I would also assume everyone else was in better shape and enjoying it all more than I was lol. That's why I don't do classes though- other people.0

I work out at a sports rehab fitness center. Most of the time I'm in a lot of pain....you will never hear me complain. Or see me cry!
For me, it I need to concentrate on doing it right and finishing! I'm in it for the great feeling I get when I'm done and the end results.
Being Healthy!

Complete agreement there...I HATE the treadmill...killer on my knees, but now that I am down 23lbs total, I am making myself do 30 minutes at the end of my workout....plug in the headphones and watch the cooking channel ...lol0

Why not just use the ellipticals/bikes if you have knee issues?0 -
Haha. I'm in training to become a Personal Trainer atm, and if you are late to class or caught talking you have to do 10 pushups...
you complain you gotta do another 100 -
I am with you on that one but ur there for you get in ur zone do ur suicides ( by the way I hate them) they make ur body look awesome along with the burpies ( i hate those also) but when I am done I feel so good that I finished and completed them. So just listen to them complain and laugh it off. NO worries they will come back the next day. They r they for the same reason you are it just takes some people longer.
Congrats on your success .....keep it up maybe u r motivating one of them to continue to come who knows.0 -
I agree that loud and constant complainers are annoying.
I also think that instructors/trainers who use that "oh let's do 5, 10, 20 more" trick are just as annoying. Once in awhile, ok. There are some who think they are "cute" or funny when they do that. Not.

I give my trainer the finger and he doesn't care cause he knows I am going to do it and push hard to get it done. It's all normal we all don't want to do it but are doing it for our own reasons and there are day your don't want to and you mutter through but when they leave i'm sure they feel accomplished0

I give my bootcamp instructor grief, but he is awesome and I love him... he knows its just my competitive nature and frustration at my own inabilities that Im upset with, not his workout.
I'd say cut the complainers some slack, everyone has their own way of handling workouts, I say kudo's to them for being there and trying to make a change! We all have to start somewhere right?0 -

Thanks, great perspective.
I agree about burpees and suicides... they are brutal but I actually like doing them because I know that if something is not easy- the only way for me to improve is to do more... plus it helps with getting in shape!0 -

I totally agree.. a few moans and groans are one thing, but dirty looks and asking for concessions... not so much.0 -
