Hi all,

So i am losing weight ok but my problem areas are my thighs, hips and butt!

I am doing the cross trainer as much as I can and trying to not have any processed food. Will my thighs, hips and butt just shrink as i lose more weight or is there anything you would recommend to sort them out?!

Thank you! xxx

They will shrink in due time. Unfortunately we can't spot reduce but through time you will start to see changes. Just have to keep on keepin' on
  • Thanks both! Guess i've got to stop being so impatient :) skinny jeans will be mine soooon! :) xxx

This post could have been written by me a few weeks back lol. Im not sure how big you are or how much you have to lose but I can say from experience, losing weight without toning those areas can lead to being "skinnyfat", i.e you still have the same problem, only it's shrunk a bit! So, I quizzed my friend who is a newly qualified fitness instructor and told her my issues (I also have problems with bingo wings, too) and she suggested daily sets of lunges and squats for my thighs and bum and for my bingo wings, overhead tricep extensions which can be done with either proper weights or failing that, a tin of soup or beans, bottle of pop etc. Hope this helps! x

I guess I should say if you just wanna be skinny do cardio like all the ladies suggest here... but if you want nice toned lean legs... you have to lift and lift heavy! You will not get bulky without steroids so throw that excuse out the window!

*cough cough* not ALL the ladies suggested cardio, I too suggested strength training

As the ladies have already said - cardio (running gives you the best workout for the time you put into it, imho), TONS of squats (weighted and unweighted), lunges, and take the stairs whenever you can. =D

I have the same problem - hips, bum, and thighs. I didn't see a difference in them until I started running regularly. The weights will give you the sexy shape, but the only way to really get rid of the fat is just to slap on the running shoes and hit the pavement.

I've found that as I've lost, more inches have come off my bottom than my top (good thing!). I do P90X plus some supplemental running/hiking. Have patience - the results will come.

How fast do you need to walk to consider it a power walk, with out running?

Squats and lunges! These dreaded tasks target most of the areas you are concerned with. Start out slow and build up to lots of reps/sets! They aren't fun, but they'll do the job!

If you're a gym member, you can also use the abductor/adductor machines to target your thighs, both inside and out.

If you haven't already, take some measurements and keep tracking them. There may be bigger results in the inches before you actually see them! It won't happen over night, be patient!

    Good luck!!!!!

    LOL - Bingo Wings
Never heard that before... I always said 'bat wings'

As far as loosing from hips and bottom, I've heard that the last place the weight comes off is the first place that it goes on. In my case that is the butt and thunder thighs as well. I have lost 7 pounds here and the most inches lost is from my chest and waist.

Although it has been said that spot reducing is a myth, you can tone certain areas to make them sleek and tight. squats, lunges, leg lifts and kick backs that shape and define your thighs will help tone and develop the areas you are talking about.

    thanks for the lively discussion

Just call me "avoiding Bingo Wings'

I really want to do heavy weights and tone because my cardio is great now but I dont want to feel like im an alien when I go into the weights section! the gym I go to is segregated so bad and the guys all think they are the best. There is a ladies only section but its **** and there isnt very good things for heavy weights. I have noticed the biggest results when I use weights and do cardio instead of just cardio.
