Measurement help?

Wasn't sure where to post this, but I need a question answered. I always did serving sizes by a dry measuring cup. So for instance green beans has 20 calories for half a cup. So i'd use the 1/2cup dry measuring cup and be done with it. Well, I recently bought a food scale and I went to weight the green beans today and I decided to get 2 servings (1 cup) but I weighed it out and It was nowhere near the weight in grams that it was supposed to be. It was actually closer to the weight for one serving. I've been noticing that weighing my food gives me more than using the measuring cup, but is this accurate? I don't want to be overeating and theoretically they should be the same right? Should I be using the dry measuring cups or my scale?

Yea i use to eyeball too...but the measurements are weighted, that's why grams are also almost always given next to (cup or oz) measurements or whatever it is. I discovered that eyeballing is horrible because things don't occupy the same in volume as they weight.0

So after researching, it seems like the kitchen scale is they way to go! I can't believe I was actually shorting myself on portions. no wonder I always felt hungry haha0

Weighing food on scales is the only really accurate way IMO, cups are for liquids, scales for solid food.0 -
I just asked this same question last night. It's crazy, no? I am scared to find out how many calories I had really been eating, since I've been trying to eat more to get to my BMR. Ugh, so frustrating! I am gonna be eating so much food!0

I've been wondering the same and I've probably been eating less than I thought I was due to using a measuring cup. This looks interesting, but might be useless when it comes to larger items... http://www.amazon.com/Taylor-Digital-Measuring-Cup-Scale/dp/B002E1AVTI0

I got my scale online, It's the Biggest Loser food scale. I think from what I was reading, weighing food is more accurate since when you put it in the dry measuring cups there's no way to account for all the air in between the food (that's the best way I can explain it). But yes, it is quite weird to be eating the same thing, but seeing how much larger the portion has become after weighing it.0

Keep in mind serving sizes are usually for uncooked foods. I LOVE my digital scale because I don't have to guess anymore.0
