If you have not heard, 5 police officers were shot in Greenland last week, one being the Chief of Police, Michael Maloney. Officer Maloney did not survive, and was only 8 days away from retirement. This has been a heartbreaking time in New Hampshire, and it only gets worse. The following is a warning sent out by a local radio station:

"Warning: There is some organization doing telemarketing claiming to be raising money for "Fallen Officers" and "The NH Chiefs of Police". DO NOT DONATE - this has NOTHING to do with NH POLICE! Police organizations are NOT fundraising via telemarketing - please spread the word!"

Please spread the word to your neighbors, and do not give any money to these "organizations."

People disgust me.

Thank you. If someone calls with a good cause and you do want to donate, you can go to the charity's web site or call them directly.

^^Agreed. That sort of scam is just salt in the wound for people who really have been victims of violence. My father was a part-time deputy with our county police. Especially since he has passed away, I feel nothing but disgust for the telemarketers who claim the money goes to local authorities. One time I asked what % actually went to the PD, and it was something like 5%. What a joke!

My heart aches for the families and those impacted.

My heart goes out to those families in NH.

People are kind of disgusting. I am always worried that my mom is going to fall victim to some sort of scam. Oh wait...she kind of already did to some self-publishing company that scammed $6k from her. She put so much faith into them, then nothing materialized. Sigh....

Wow!! I live in NH and didnt' hear about this. I guess I don't watch much news. I do get a lot of phone calls at work asking for donations. I always ask them to send me something in writing and I will look into it. They rarely do. I do handle the local store marketing and fundraising, so this is good to know.

    Thanks for sharing.

Exactly! It's best to never trust the "middle man" in these situations.

But yeah, that's a very sad situation. I really can't imagine what goes through someone's mind to think it's ok to profit from something like that.

Honestly, I was thinking the same thing: "How do they sleep at night?"

    Karma's a b*tch... They'll soon find that out.

I heard about the shooting, thank god I don't live in NH anymore. I am always skeptical about telephone solicitations, I usually tell them to send me info through the mail.
