Any Workaholics or people with a crazy job or crazy hours?

Hey,
I'm looking for support. Work has temporarly taken over my life and I still have no schedule nor energy to exercise (though I do track my food on work days far better than when I'm off.) Although any support would be great, I also would like to "friend" people who also work more than that standard 40 hour week, or who also work crazy hours, or just have a crazy job - so that maybe we can continue to support and motivate each other both in work & life.

I work about 60 hours a week. My commute to/from work is an hour each way.
I'm in grad school at night. Add six hours of class time, plus six hours of homework time, plus four extra hours of commute time a week.
On top of that, I run a *very* small home based business. Call that a few extra hours a week.
Finding time to work out and make healthy food is not easy.

The 40 hour work week is a mythical thing to me. I wouldn't call myself a workaholic (some friends may), but I put in the hours to get the job done. My job (web developer) lets me work from home when needed, like today, sigh. Luckily it is pretty miserable outside today. Feel free to add me if you like.0

Glad to see I am not alone. Work/life balance can be difficult as is but trying to build new habits in both those areas seem just plain hard to me. Hopefully we all will find our groove.0

My work varies - when I am busy I am working 80-100 hours a week.0

I work anywhere from 50-100 hours a week. Above that I'm "on call" 2-4 days a week, plus every 3-4 weekend. I also have a hubby and 2 crazy kids. So, working out sometimes is almost impossible. Since joining MFP I've met many people who have helped motivate me! For the past 3-4 months I've made it to the gym at LEAST 3-4 days a week. And, I've begun exercising at home when the gym just isn't possible.

I work anywhere from 40-48+ hours a week, but i work from 5am-1pm and I'm a full time student (only for another 12 weeks though!!) I also have a toddler at home and my hubby works opposite hours than me. This means we are both like single parents, and there is little time to get done stuff when it isn't our days off. I do surveillance for a casino and it isn't very "fitness friendly". I sit all day and i am encouraged to not leave the room longer than about 20 min at a time.0

I'm a civil paralegal working in a high stress, demanding plaintiff's personal injury firm. I work alot of 50-80 hour weeks, depending on the trial calendar. On top of that, I've got three little kids at home! Feel free to add me for support0

You're preaching to the choir, sister. I can completely relate. I work a minimum of 40 hours/week. I am also on call anywhere between 1 and 6 nights per week. I've worked all day, worked all night, and worked all day with no sleep. Finding the time, energy, and motivation to hit the gym when I would MUCH rather be catching up on ZZZs has been my biggest setback to getting fit.

I work a 40 hour work week at one job. At another job, I work 8-12 hours. Then I also go to school online. Taking 2 classes at a time.
I somehow get exercise in, because it gives me energy. But, eating healthy sometimes is very hard. Feel free to add me. I will try to give as much support as I can. Sometimes it is very hard. Some days are worse than others.0 -
I may only work eight hours a day, but I also get an hour unpaid lunch and spend three hours in total to and from work everyday. Meaning I'm away from home for twelve hours a day. When I get home, I'm just exhausted. Most days, it's to the point where working out comes after sleep.0

I only work 40 hours per week at my full time job. And 5 at my part time job. Oh, and I'm a full time college student. When people say they can't find time to work out, I totally empathize.0

I seem to end up working overtime (without pay) a lot and I work 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. It's a little rough to eat normally and still workout!0

I'm not a "work-a-holic" however I do have a 2 hour (each way) commute that eats up all my time. I wake up @ 3:50 and I have to be at the commuter lot by 4:45 we get to work adound 7, and I work 7-3:30 then we get get home just after 5. Then I have to cram in cooking, cleaning and the gym. I'm obnoxiously tired, all the time. On top of that I go to the range on thursdays, and monthly try to paint pottery and scrap book. Also I sometimes do web devving or graphic work on the side. I've recently given up the extra money from that for gym time.0

I work shifts do a 42 hour week.. three weeks of 8.30 - 5.30 then a week of 4.30pm to midnight then on call all weekend so like 6am and 7am starts then the next week (which is this week) 6am - 4.30pm.. So i tend to go gym before work on a normal shift wheni work nights i go pretty much as soon as i get up like 9, 10 am and when i'm working an early week.. like this week.. i tend to struggle to go after work as i'm tired.. i don't see it as any kind of failure just keep on.. I think the three normal weeks help definatley and i prefer not to go to the gym at the weekend as use sat and sunday as my rest days.. All over days are gym days when i can.
It is hard. Especially when your tired. Is your job physcial? I wear an activity monitor watch for days when my job is physical it helps count tha calories burned from being more active like shiftingp rinters around.0 -
I wouldn't say my work schedule is all too crazy, when I am home I work 6am-2pm but have a 45 mile commute so I'm up at 4:30am.
But I spend most of my time on the road which si officially 40 hour weeks during pretty normal hours, but in reality could easily jump up to 60+. But the real problem for me is the constant change in locales and schedules has me struggling to keep a routine.0 -
2 out of 5 weeks i'm on call.. Also have a husband to cook and clean for, keep fit and have a life lol! We are busy People! :laugh:0

I'm right there with ya! I work the normal 8-5, but I have to leave my house by 7am so I'm up at 5:30am. I also go to school full-time at night from 6-10 pm everyday. Add in at least 3 hours of homework a night, I'm lucky to be in bed by 2am. Right now I focus on just eating right, because I have no time to exercise0

normal 40 hrs. but hours are abnormal. 11pm-7am. I also work weekends so social life is some what non-exsistent. It's nice and ideal for hitting the gym. 7am, it's not super busy at my YMCA. It sucks because all my friends have normal work week and hours. When they go out on weekends I can't. When I am off on Mondays and Tuesdays, they can't go out because of work. ) =0

OMG! I get up at 4:35am everday ( M-F) in order to work out at the gym by work. I get to the gym by 6am, work out, shower and get ready for work. I have a daily meeting at 8:30am everyday. My commute is about 1 hour or so ( going to work), coming home is at least 2 hours of commuting time! I dont have a typical job ( hotel sales) and I stay late several days a week ( at least until 6:30pm).
By the time I get home, I have about an hour of me time and then I go to bed and do it all over again. If I didn't work out in the morning my day would be awful. At least I know that I get it done in the morning!0 -
I too have crazy work hours I have a standard 9-5, 40 hour work week desk job. Then I have a part-time 12-16 hour retail job, so I am on my feet running around for those 4.5 hours. I worked the part-time job full-time before the desk job and when I got the desk job the retail job really wanted me to stay at least part-time so I did because I am really trying to get out of credit card and student loan debt. Those extra 12-16 hours is typically spread over three days during the week days when I do my 9-5 so I leave the house at 8:30 in the morning and don't get back until 11:00 -11:30 at night.
I def find it hard to find time to head to the gym because on the weekends I have to try to do all the little errands and chores I did not have time for during the week and sometimes I am just plain too tired to walk down to the gym and work out.0 -

Right there with you! I leave my house at 6:45am and after work, commuting, and working out, I don't get home until 9pm. Sometimes later if I have to go to the grocery store of something! It's tough and I'm usually pretty worn out, but a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do, right?0

I'm in the crazy schedule boat... I work 6 days a week to get close to 40 hours, and Mon-Fri I watch my 6 month old during the day... doesn't give me very much time to be with my family. I really don't get a day of, but I've gotten into decent shape in the last few weeks, and now I'm on day 3 of P90X... which I usually start after I get home from work at 10 pm.0

Wow there's a lot of us out here! I wonder then who all started that 9-5 40 hour work week norm that I use to believe growing up. Right now I leave for work 5am and get back 6:30pm Monday-Saturday. I work outside at least half of that, so I'm normally wind & sun beat by the time I'm back home. Right now I eat alright on workdays, but I have no exercise habits due to coming home brain dead and tired most days!

I work Monday-Saturday almost every week. I sometimes get a saturday off.
I manage the Pediatric department of a large neurology practice. I'm scheduled for 40 hours a week. but never work that little.
I work during my lunch breaks and its somewhat stressful and fast paced.
its extremely hard for me to find workout time and time to eat healthy. But we do what we can right! Just have to plan better I guess0 -

Workaholic here. Right now it's been full time internship (40-60 hours a week), preparing for the bar exam and doing a masters course aside.
Living abroad and not having much of a private life makes working out easier, but I will have to see how things go when I am back home in January. Will stick to my training schedule though, just have not yet figured out how exactly ;-). I also made a deal with friends to alternate healthy cooking, so hopefully that helps a bit.

I leave my house at 3:30pm for work and get back home at 5:20am, followed by gym and shower and maybe a TV episode of X, in bed by 8am for sleep, only to get up and do it all over again.

I seem to work a lot. 40-42 at one job, evenings and weekends installing surveillance systems and I have a one man bakery. And they wonder why I drink....0
